I've been in a romance mood lately and I'd like some recommendations. Not just any kind of romance, though, I want romance anime that'll make me cry. I want the best (and saddest) recommendations you have. Both series and films are fine. Do your worst! :)
i signed a contract with a devil making me recommend revolutionary girl utena in every circumstance where it's remotely applicable. the main plot ultimately comes down to the central romance and makes me cry a lot
also millennium actress and liz and the blue bird are two of the best romance films of all time imo. real tearjerkers
Idk if it's sad enough, but I recently watched Your Name and it got quite a few tears out of me.
Does the romance itself have to be sad, or can it be generlly sad but also with a romance that isnt sad
I was thinking of generally sad romances but i'm open to any suggestions
The girl who lept through time is low key heartbreaking (though romance isn't the only part of it). It's one that always got me very emotional, and the ending really guts you.
The old school (very old school, 20yrs old for some of these now) Kyoto Animation eroge adaptations (Air, Kanon, Clannad) all had a lot of melancholy, though they're all blurred together in my memory and I can't remember which was the real tearjerker.
Perhaps not as tragic, but melancholic to the core is Whisper of the Heart, a really good Ghibli film that foregrounds the romance.
Like @Cromalin@hexbear.net , I also have to every time emphasize Gunbuster and Diebuster. They're mecha anime, but focused on the characters and like utena, the main relationships (especially in Diebuster) make me cry every time.
Best I can do is shows I cried at which are only partly romances.

I've seen Frieren and I love it. Haven't watched the other two but I've heard they're tearjerkers, good luck to me hahah
Someone mentioned your lie in april. I second that. I'll add say I love you and ao haru ride. I won't say I cried watching these but they are emotional I guess.
