Y'all, I dont really get the panic from some people about RBG dying and it's implications for Roe v Wade and other rights stuff. The supreme court was already majority republican, nothing has changed.

They were in full control of the govt for 2 years, still have majority control, and haven’t even touched Roe v. Wade. Same thing happened in the W and Reagan admins. They know they can’t repeal it at this point without risking some serious economic damage. If they ever do, it’ll be because some true believing kool-aid drinker evangelical fash gets put in charge.

At least Roberts sometimes pretended to have an independent viewpoint. A 6-3 conservative court is going to suck so much.

I think the idea is that replacing Ginsberg with a Trump stooge essentially further entrenches SCOTUS into lunatic variety of conservative hack control for decades to come. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh replaced justices that were already conservative or appointed by Republican administrations. A tilt like this hasn't happened in a pretty long time. You're generally right though that the court was already conservative...but we've seen rulings more recently that didn't really play to the desire of Trump, that's going to be a lot less likely now. And he's likely to appoint someone more like Ted Cruz or some bullshit.

The only way now to get out of this situation, other than waiting 40 years, would be to change the structure of the Supreme Court...court stacking, and that didn't end up well for FDR even though he was pulling supermajorities and wiping the board in elections. I highly doubt Biden would try it.

The American obsession with "legacy" finally doing something good?
