This is a rare mask-off moment for Barry and his ilk, because he's expressing frustration not with the fact that wealth got concentrated at the top, but at the rate it happened. They know very well that should capitalist-laugh's greed and accumulation be slowed down by the liberal state, they would dust their hands and go home feeling they did a good job.

Isn't the entire "center left" (ugh) proposition these days, and even some elements on the right, that capitalism is totally fine and great it just needs a little tweaking to be its best self

That is the premise on its face, and many people might even believe it as such out of a lack of theory or plain propaganda, but that's what's interesting about this quote to me.

He reveals he knows either consciously or instinctively that wealth flows to the top because that's how capitalism works, and that his idea of a "more equitable/just society" doesn't include changing this dynamic, only slowing it down so that people don't feel too bad about it happening. It's so intellectually honest it's crazy.

you don't need theory to understand that's wrong tbh. It's just a fundamental number balance,

and that his idea of a "more equitable/just society" doesn't include changing this dynamic, only slowing it down so that people don't feel too bad about it happening.

you mean so that people don't catch on lol
