nah they wouldn't ever be counted, if your write in isn't a candidate that is on the write-in list then they just throw it out. a few poll workers might notice an oddly high number of stalin ballots, but it'd never make it past there
it's like a list of candidates who applied to be able to be written in. So like if you write in Stalin, it won't be counted or anything, but if you write in a spesific name who applied then your vote will go to them. Idk who's on it for you, it changes state-to-state
