Srsly Wrong is political, in a sense, but is a more utopian podcast that talks about the world we want to build than as opposed to world we do live in.

I think it's funny as hell, but it's not serial format.

I'd start with their Library Socialism trilogy:

The wrong boys are awesome. I wholeheartedly second this endorsement. Listening to them makes me hopeful in a way that almost no other leftist podcast does.

Gus and Eddy are pretty funny. Two comrade Youtube comedians who are also best friends, just riffing about anything and everything. They also host a lot of great guest stars from the same circles.

    • Well There's Your Problem - Covers engineering disasters. 75% of the episodes are good fun where not that many people die. 25% will make you want to boil a capitalist alive. Roll the dice!

    • The Beef And Dairy Network Podcast - Surreal comedy sketches in the form of a radio show about news from the beef and dairy industry. Most of the stories are physically impossible.

    • Hello From The Magic Tavern - Surreal comedy sketches in the form of an interview talk show. A guy from our universe gets sucked into a fantasy world, so he makes friends with a wizard and a badger and they interview a new guest each episode.

    • We've Got Worm - On the off chance that you've read the web serial Worm, there's a wonderful in-depth literary analysis podcast dedicated to it.

99% Invisible (though there's occasionally political stuff there) - interesting pod about the hidden world of design. Backstory for history. Highly recommend Hardcore History. How did this get made - funny takes on the worst movies. This american life sometimes has interesting stories. History of philosophy without any gaps.

The first thirty or so episodes of Welcome to Nightvale were pretty great. That's like kind of a satire of Lovecraftian horror, so it's got some spooky elements while being funny. 99 Percent Invisible often avoids the political and can just be neat, it's mostly educationally looking at unnoticed design choice. Bundyville is also really cool. It's not directly political I'd say but does a deep dive into the absolutely insane beliefs of the Bundy family that did that stand off with the Feds in Nevada.

Cant reccomend this enough. Every season gets better and better. I havent been able to stop listening. Its an "anthology" , bug everything is relevant and almost every question gets answered by the end. It does a really good job of tying into itself and keeping loose ends tied

Face Jam, an excellent amd hysterical podcast based on a group of 4 guys going out and eating limited time items off of fast food menus and rating them.

I'd recommend E1, where each episode is the first episode of a fictional podcast and I find it really funny.

Srsly wrong is political (libsoc) most of the time but it’s funny and wholesome. Papa and boy series is what I’d try out.

Missing Richard Simmons was pretty good.

Ken Jennings podcast Omnibus is good too
