True enough, though it feels more like the "this is fine" meme. Hard to really enjoy the very privileged nature of my work when I look out my metaphorical window and see the world burning.

Yeah I can only imagine, hit me up if you ever need any minor help, I'm certainly not rich by any means but I have more comfort than I need, and us Chapo's/comrades need to be looking out for each other. Those of us that can spare some of their privilege should be vocal in offering help, cause it sucks ass having to ask.

Thanks a lot, just about managing to keep my head above water at the moment and I'm sure there are others on here in far worse positions than me, but I very much appreciate the offer. As always I'm blown away by how supportive this community is :fidel-salute:

Yeah for sure, my same offer goes to anyone reading this. Community starts with each and every one of us, and this site has been so encouraging, I'm more than happy to help someone out where I can :sankara-salute:

at my job (esp with covid), we can't steal anything but time. so i make sure to spend at least 1-2 hours a day talking to my co-workers to steal time twice as effectively. bonus points because it's been a great way to agitate too - folks are starting to use words like "united" and "collectively" without me bringing it up first

Remember folks, 20 minutes in the bathroom per day is more than two weeks of paid time over the course of a year!

I'll shit off a rock, I'll shit off a dock, but I'll be damned if I shit off the clock.

The only thing I can steal from my job currently is time, I guess. I did take a nap a little while ago, so I guess I'm something of an activist my self.

What about those who are self employed? Or work for those charitable non profits or public services?

When I worked at Starbucks, we threw out a dozen+ $6 sandwiches every night and 20+ pastries. I fed so many friends when I worked closing shifts

So, obviously stealing from work is cool as hell, but I do think there is merit to being a hard worker, too. Obviously, this is all contingent on the nature of the work, but as a hospital worker and member of a union, I just try to remain mindful of the impact my actions have on my coworkers. I think being reliable and trustworthy in an effective way to build solidarity, and strengthens the bonds between us.

I think it's easy for some workers to misdirect their anger against their "lazy coworkers" and by earning their respect, i can help redirect that frustration against our bosses and the hospital's board of directors.

I'm not trying to be preachy, and I recognize that my circumstances are different than many workers because I actually belong to a union.

Shit... I work in a public school in desperate need of resources and I'm more likely to bring stuff to work than to steal stuff. I accidentally stole a pair of scissors that I had to take away to prevent a stabbing last year because I had to hide them on my person in the moment and forgot that I had done so, and I felt really bad about it. Guess I suck at Praxis.

Awww dog educating in public schools is definitely praxis as long as you teach Maoism

I kind of do as much as I can. I'm there as an extra resource for the neuroatypical kids. I'm not allowed to tell the kids my political opinions, but I am allowed to skirt around that quite flagrantly to the point that among most of the older kids it's a very open secret that I am a communist. I even leant the communist manifesto to a kid, which probably feels great for everyone to hear, but is extra great for me because he actually tried to read a book.

"Stop telling the class that I'm a communist. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, you know I'm not allowed to confirm or deny that. Anyway, you also said that communism killed 100 million people, so let's talk again about source criticism, which as you all know is very important!"

A second suggestion from my old bottle shop days: Have a friend come in and pretend not to know you. They pick up something cheap plus a bunch of expensive spirits. You scan them with the little handheld scanner thingy but just scan slightly to the side so you miss the barcode on the expensive spirits. They pay by card so there's no video evidence of the wrong amount of money changing hands or anything dodgy. These days you'd probably also have to be aware of whether there's a payment threshold for PIN numbers being required or whatever that would be a giveaway on video, but I'm sure you could get around that.

I saw way too many idiots get caught with their hand in the till, which is the absolute dumbest way to steal from your work

I stole so much stationary from my last job, I've got letter openers, ballpoint pens, scissors, USB sticks, paperclips and crocodile clips for days. I'm basically the Tyler Durdan of data entry, just, y'know, without all the chud stuff.

I work at a hotel. Haven't paid for coffee, toilet paper or paper towels in two years. Good coffee too. Plus a bunch of draft beer. It's good.

I used to work produce at a grocery store. I always took a long time in the cooler. 🍓🍒🥝 ( My union rep actually encouraged that so that was pretty cool)

I'm a graphic designer and this "new normal" is literally what I've been asking to do for a decade.

"Why can't I only work when there's work that needs to be done?"

"If I'm waiting for design approvals why do I have to be sat at my desk looking busy?"

"Why do I need to drive for an hour to go into the office when my computer at home is better?"

WHO WAS RIGHT? I WAS RIGHT. FUCK YOU.
