Toshihiro Nagoshi is a very wise man, and has explicitly stated that he refuses to glorify the Yakuza. I think that effort is clear as the interaction with the world around you is more about interactions with your community and establishments, rather than in GTA where interaction is defended by cruel violence at NPC's.
