My mental health has gotten much better. Even only browsing the lefty subs wasn’t helping since redditors think every thread is a debate forum.

delete it and do not look back

redditors think every thread is a debate forum.

I think this is the core why reddit is fucking toxic. On here we can just have convos for the hell of it. Every single thing on reddit seems to be contentious. On reddit you will get downvoted voor the most uncontroversial small ass comment 'I like red shoes' or something could get you piled on. I'm not even exaggerating.

I posted something innocuous in a game sub like "lol why are you playing with Japanese voice acting" and I got like 100+ downvotes plus a couple of guys saying I was xenophobic. You're definitely not exaggerating, there is something fundamentally broken with the people on reddit

Reddit is good as long as you don't touch anything political with a 10 foot pole

great platform for vibeo gemz and porn

Yeah, I got so much happier when I just downloaded an epub reader on my phone and forced myself to read books whenever I wanted to spend a long time on my phone reading shit.

Literally all I use reddit for now is videogame subs. Even then there's some hot takes on some certain videogame subreddits, haha.

I love you chapos and prefer it here, but there's still certain subreddits you just don't have an equivalent for yet and frankly may not ever given the demographics.

Mainly: parenting. I don't think there's many single dads with Kindergartners here, and even if there were while I fully intend to radicalize my kid and probably couldn't avoid warping him even if I wanted to...I do still at least want to make sure I can reduce alienation from his peers which means I need to follow what "normies" are up to.

For me it's /r/cptsd, it's a great support group for my specific mental health issues and I don't think there's that many people here who have the same disorder.

For me it's a tiny fandom subreddit for the author of my favorite series. It's literally the only subreddit I ever go to anymore lol

My god yes. My mental health has improved significantly since I deleted that wretched app. There's this certain type of nerdy, pedantic, debate-club tone that I've only heard people use on Reddit and it literally makes me want to commit violence. Burn that place to the ground, and don't look back lest you turn into a pillar of salt.

Which football? VAR or Tom Brady?

Seriously though, I find sports forums mostly terrible for discussion. Sometimes there will be some good opinions, breakdowns of plays, funny jokes etc. But most of the time its just repeating either what some terrible sports personality has said or repeating the same joke over and over. The only good thing reddit is for when it comes to sports is seeing highlights.

It's also good for sailing the high seas to find live streams of games...

It was good until the last few years where the admin cracked down on it. But that also allowed the creation of new websites for live streams.

Yup detoxifying from Reddit is taking some time for me. I really used to enjoy it for retro gaming, computer related and sport subs - there was leftist and anti-capitalist tone pretty much throughout the site initially.

8 years later it's a political battlefield, all the mods on any major sub are bought and sold, and it's being completely astroturfed by both sides. It went from certain opinions being overwhelmingly condemned, to passively accepted, to any majorly dissenting voices being banned... as it happened for me multiple times for simply showing an aggressive support of certain policies or ideas...getting literally threatened by chuds and then banned for offhandedly saying they should fuck off.

As per, civility only exists in the form of having to conform to a standard that justifies somebody else's superiority over you. Be nice to your superiors or you'll be judged inferior. The catch 22 of liberal and conservative smugness.

I only go to reddit for a couple very specific subs, notably r/Blackmetal because its a great source of new bands making the kind of music I like. The rest of that site outside of niche subs is pretty much guaranteed to be trash.

This is how I do it now. Basically not active on any sub with more than like 20k users or if it's a very nice thing like DnD or photography. I avoid any sub about news, current events, popular media, and especially any sub that revolves around making fun of people like InsanePeopleFacebook, those subs are just a melting pot for redditor to get stiffies feeling superior over people. I just don't care

One of the only "big" subs worth following is AskHistorians because they have a really solid moderator team and iron-clad rules.

Agree with you wholeheartedly. Any sub with similar moderation like that is typically good. Chuds and dumb redditors get so mad they can't post stupid reactionary takes on those places too, it's so funny seeing them complain about freeze peach when they tried to post the same stupid pun 10 redditors before them already posted.

Lmao I know exactly what you're talking about. This would have been over a year ago but some dumbass posted a question about the legitimacy of the Nazi argument about how it was actually the Communists that started WWII or something reprehensible along those lines and they got dogpiled hard. The thread got turned into a thread about historical revisionism and was used as an example for what kind of thing not to post. Puts a smile on my face just remembering it.

Hell yeah, I remember that thread. Truly one of the only intellectual spaces on reddit, as much as I hate both using that word and the baggage it has.

There really is some extremely knowledgeable people on that sub. Also really appreciate how quick people are to correct any misinfo and revisionism
