    It gets even worse:

80% of the deaths were from people who had not been convicted of a crime

I mean, people who have been convicted of a crime shouldn't die either, but that number shocked me.

If we were a developing country with that death toll in our prisons and any kind of resources, the US would be busting down our door to liberate us

    huh

so that's what covid does when people don't get care or isolation.

Gonna suck when the health care system collapses.

Unrelated but I keep working “what is to be done” into conversations lately and nobody has admitted they noticed yet.

There's an old man in my community who once worked as a guard at a federal prison back in the 80s and 90s across the country. He's been retired almost 20 years now, but he offered some insight on this to anyone that would listen to him from his experience.

Back in April he was telling me and others who would listen that this virus was going to spread like a wildfire in the prison system. He explained that it's so easy to contaminate a prison just from a guard being sick. He told me how even though everyone assumes you get paid leave and sick days with a government job, this is not the case. He swore that there would be cases of guards coming in infected and unknowingly spreading it throughout an entire prison, going into detail to explain how unsafe prisons are set up across the country to deal with something like this. His experiences were from federal prisons and he swore that even there, they don't take enough precautions or do much at all to prevent the spreading of diseases.

My girlfriend's mom works as a social worker in a prison and is lamenting these exact same thoughts.

Furthermore there's been at least two cases of guards coming in knowingly ill and spreading it just because they didn't "believe" in it whatever the fuck that means.

They still work there if course

    These aren't concentration camps.

    This isn't fascism.

To reference our good friend Brace Belden, this is normal neoliberalism we're witnessing, folks. This is your real enemy.
