No masking means no visual and tactile reminder that things are different. No added ventilation or air filters means no change in routine... If there's nothing different, then people won't be asking what the government needs to do to bring things back to normal. You're totally right though, the government should take simple, effective measures like this to protect people and reduce unnecessary disability and death.

Yeah. Even when reporting was at its highest, there were all the cases that weren't being tested because many people don't have access to healthcare.
i was wondering what death rates were for unvaccinated people, but this document seems to indicate the chance of death is only slightly higher if unvaccinated. So that's interesting. I thought the disparity would still be big.

at this point it’s a difference between natural immunity and vaccine-induced immunity. almost nobody is getting it for the first time, so almost everyone has some natural immunity. plus, the newer strains are supposedly less acutely harmful than initial strains
also, reporting methods are only getting worse. with a shortage of covid tests, there are less confirmed cases, so many covid deaths are reported as “pneumonia”
