I wanna know. Eggnog, which is only good for adding liquor, is fucking disgusting. I will engage in good faith arguments for why there is eggnog ice cream, but there is a reason this was in the discount end cap section, so you got an uphill battle already.
I drank a quart of eggnog for breakfast this morning. I fucking love that shit.
I've used store-bought fancy eggnog as DIY eating disorder treatment (forcing a ton of calories to avoid self starving and because the brand I like actually tastes good. I actually like nutmeg.
That's gnarly, and makes sense too counting that many calories like that, shit. Eating disorders are rough, all I got is solidarity for you on that:heart-sickle:
It's also hard for this time of year and with covid because it makes getting food which is appealing and pre-made much harder. A lot of take out places are closed l
I like eggnog ice cream more than I like egg nog proper because it's like vanilla ice cream with very tasty spices.
Thats a good argument, but like why eat that over better ice cream, is that combo a preference over others? I'm not a huge ice cream eater, but when I do I want chunks of something in there and caramel and some other shit.
Follow up question, is the part of, "very tasty spice" for your vanilla ice cream a thing outside eggnog? Is it just a seasonal thing to you or a every now and then thing?
If egg nog ice cream was available all year long it would be my go to. To get the fix I drink horchata a lot which is basically the flavor of egg nog without the bloated feeling that stems from the massive calories in egg nog. However, I have never found an horchata ice cream I like it is usually very icy due to a high moisture content from something added by the manufacturer I am weird with my food I love the simplest version of most foods. A dry steak with no sides, cheese pizza, and I only put pickles and cheese on my burgers. I find that adding stuff like chunks and caramel pull away from what makes ice cream so great to me. But I also love the concept of throwing all the bits you can to make something special if that's what people like.
Goddamn that is such a good comparison to horchata, never thought about it like that, I see what you mean. Do you ever add anything extra to your eggnog ice cream?
You got it figured out, damn. Glad to have met a eggnog ice cream eater, i was convinced it has been a ploy to get people to buy an ice cream only because it's seasonal and a market fear of missing out in a sense.
It is a ploy like all commodities in our society but theres just something so perfect about cinnamon and nutmeg coming together in a tasty beverage. I want to make some coquito when my cuban rum gets delivered.
Nutmeg use to be a staple spice for early :amerikkka: colonizers and settlers but somehow it phased out with the future generations and it's a bit interesting how it's not found in almost anything anymore but we have a tradition of now consuming it once a year.
It improves almost every savory recipe or beef dish as well as desserts. I love that damn Townsends 18th century cooking show despite being aware of the culture that gave rise to those recipes.
Ever had homemade? Very easy and better than carton, quite a different thing in fact. It has to be boozy to make it less deadly if you do it raw, but it is good even if it isn't
I really don't fuck with raw, but I'd try it, not something I'd ever make myself
C'mon whens the last time drinking raw egg made anyone sick besides me last week
Everything "egg nog" flavored I've ever had that wasn't actually booze was just over-flavored garbage
Understandable
As a fat American I like anything with a ton of sugar, and my booze is no exception
I just don't drink it unless someone actually hands it to me. Idk its got a lot of dairy in it, and I can't process more than a serving. But I'd drink more if I thought it was worth it. Rather drink a mudslide in that case.
Again, understandable
I don't have dairy issues and IIRC the pre-mixed boozy stuff you can buy doesn't actually have dairy in it, just carrageenan and vanilla
I've also never had a mudslide but I bet it's pretty good
Hand wringing over product consumption is the 69th form of liberalism.
Excuse you, this is a lib website, we are ALL libs on this blessed day
Well, that other chapo thread told me this probably full of air regardless of taste, so now I can't defend this
Yeah most ice cream has a ridiculous amount of air whipped into it. Gelato is where its at if you want something with more body. One scoop of that stuff takes me a lot longer to finish and it's more filling. I love gelato
Mankind, in its hubris, must re-learn the same lessons each generation, not content to absorb the wisdom of our elders.
I was in the milk aisle the other day and saw they had an eggnog display, so I decided to pick up a half gallon.
It's going to be hard to finish. I actually do like the taste, but the problem is it's so thick. It feels like drinking pancake batter. Maybe thinning it with some dark rum would make it more palatable.
Clearly you haven't tried this shit. The yellow one that says "rompope" is essentially eggnog.
I'm vegan now but the almond eggnog is pretty good too. It's less "dense" and creamy and has a good almond flavor as well. It isn't as good mixed with liquor though.
Fog-drams i' th' morn, or (better still) egg-nogg,
At night hot-suppings, and at mid-day, grogg,
