Because of following your advice I don't know what you're talking about

This is easily the most important Twitter lesson. I am trying to make sure I mostly use my account to send fetish porn to chuds and praise them for being such good piggies

I stopped using twitter not long ago because I felt that the format was fucking up my attention span, but the coolest thing about twitter is that famous people are there. I've got to interact with some of my favourite sci-fi writers on twitter. How cool is that?

I joined twitter really early then stopped using it until like a year ago. One of my favorite things was following musicians I've loved since I was a teenager, and finding out they're in the same political circles as me, then actually interacting with them, talking about music, etc.

The people I want to hear from the most would be the last ones to join mastodon.

It's a trade-off, unfortunately. I deleted my twitter a year or so ago and haven't signed back up because that place is so lousy with chuds. BUT! It let me have conversations with some of my favorite bands, artists, podcasters, writers, etc. But the mental anguish just ain't worth it

I can vouch for mastodon, it's a great place with great people! Be careful to not just use it like twitter but invest a second to see how people interact there.

Don't go into it expecting it to be like Twitter. The majority of your faves aren't on Mastodon for various reasons, so, for me, it ends up being a bunch of normal people saying mundane things. There's a local instance feed, and a global federation feed for finding people to follow. Cultivate your personal feed and block or report the anime porn bots, if that's a problem.

Tweets are "Toots", replies are replies, retweets are "Boosts", stars/likes are "Favourites". Most things work the way you'd expect, but at a much more granular level. Don't be surprised if liking a toot leads to a follow request. It really feels like a community with a strong furry representation.

I was being flippant but essentially I am saying microblogging sucks but there is at least a less bad noncorporate, decentralised microblogging platform.

Much the same as reddit sucks but lemmy could potentially be ok.

Also to mastodon's credit it is already federated and has significant traction compared to lemmy.

Mastodon sucks in the same ways Twitter does in that I have only wanted to commit suicide three times in my adult life, once in 2008, once on Twitter after Felix harassed me, and once on Mastodon. I'm good! No thanks!

That's fair, the Tranarchist Catgirl Liberation Front don't launch their Gender Transformation bomb attacks until next week.

I know there was some stupid drama over Thought Slime critiquing Nazbol Caleb Maupin. Is Slime's "support" of imperialism somehow construed from this drama or is it unrelated?

I don't really want to care about whatever Dugin lovers want to say about some queer breadtuber.

I just made a Twitter account yesterday because I'm tired of not being able to open links. Is my life going to be ruined?

My Twitter is going on ten years old. In the last year or two I made the mistake of engaging. Now I have ~50 followers and my husband can't relate to me anymore.

Sooner or later, that lurk account is gonna get you

I think having a lurk account is fine. But I have to check myself from ever actually engaging in “””discussion””” on there
