They are as politically salient as they are diverse and inclusive—beautiful, wonderfully written works.

    I was at this stage of the argument a few weeks ago, and then I went back to look at some other books I loved as a kid, and guess what:

    • There's no transphobia in Darren Shan
    • There's no awful Jewish stereotypes in Series of Unfortunate Events
    • The Noughts and Crosses series is a little heavy handed but still slaps

    Harry Potter is just bad literature. Even taken outside the views of the author it's a poor story with enormous narrative inconsistencies, and the existence of everything else I've just mentioned is proof enough of it being A Fuck.

    If I ever have kids they won't be reading it. They will ABSOLUTELY be reading Unfortunate Events though, that thing slaps.
