Terrifying
Harvard owns all the water, bill gates owns all the land. I’m sure it’ll be fine, just very fine people exercising their rights to own private property
Literally Feudalism (but we as peasants are uprooted with less job stability)
Love to see private wealth reinventing feudalism. Maybe he’ll lease you the equipment and let you live on his farm land too!
Waiting for him to open up the land to annual subscriptions —
share croppinggig cropsIt mentions Ted Turner owns over a million acres in New Mexico. My biologist friends said it has the best quality of habitat in the state.
Bill Gates isn’t human so he won’t be doing ecological restoration unfortunately.
Ted turner is an interesting case for sure. Like I remember 20 years ago getting so fucking mad about his land ownership in the Midwest and mountain west, then realizing it was either him or some monsanto big ag ghoul polluting the water with poor ranching practices...
Yeah, definitely a special case. I wonder what happens to the land when he dies. It sounds good if it gets turned over to public land but I worked on BLM land and the habitat is decimated from overgrazing. BLM is scared to limit grazing because the ranchers have so much influence.
I can't help but to think it would be better if remained private as long as they continue doing what they're doing.
I’m assuming land trusts, but don’t know. Fuck ranchers in this country, mostly the ones who use BLM lands.
Imagine holding the monopoly on American agricultural land during the worsening climate crisis :capitalist:
He was in deep with Monsanto and I’m pretty sure he’s big into GMO shit, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s involved.
It could just be boring real estate investment assets though, tbh
