Inspired by a recent thread. I've seen a bunch of people advocating for no shampoo lately, and I want to get to the bottom of this.
Anti-shampoo people, show yourselves, I want answers. Should we all stop doing shampoo? Is it a thing for everyone or only certain hair types? Is it superior to good shampoo + good conditioner? Do you need to do literally anything with it if you're doing no shampoo or just let it go wild? This whole thing flies in the face of everything I think I know about hair and I want ANSWERS dammit 😤
I have only ever had hair no longer than shoulder length, but nothing except water and wax/hair spray has touched my hair for close to a decade, and my hair looks, feels and smells perfectly normal (except it’s going grey lmaoooo).
I literally just scrub my hair with my hands while the shower washes through it.
Really? my hair gets so greasy if I don't use shampoo
I have heard that that’s just a phase for a week or two and you push through it, but tbh I don’t really remember that being an issue for me.
The whole anti-shampoo argument is that shampoo just strips out your natural oils, and then conditioner puts in a bunch of artificial oils. So why not cut out the middle men and just let your hairs natural oils do the work. The same argument says that the fact you’re stripping out your hairs natural oil makes it over-produce those oils, so it takes a little while to adjust back to normal levels when you stop using shampoo, hence the greasiness.
Also even if you do use shampoo it’s supposed to be not be more than every 2 or 3 days apparently.
Interesting, I have heard arguments about using less shampoo but i've never cared enough to actually try it. Maybe ill try every other day and see how that works.
