My take is this, f you’re not willing to lock down and eliminate it, all you’re doing with half measures is applying selection pressure, assuring the only strains that survive are the beastly fuck-you strains. Idk though, that’s just my feeling.
There is usually a trade-off between infectiousness/contagiousness, and deadliness. Selecting for a higher r value will decrease the death/serious injury rate in a lot of cases (not all tho)

Ah, bad news for us then! With a 1% fatality rate, there's mostly just room for it to go up i guess.
