    I can't get excited about this b/c the Republicans and Manchin will push for a replacement that's even more pro-austerity.

      I think it's more about the 'mean' Tweets, these people fetishize civility and bi-partisanship. They don't actually believe in anything, zero ideology, just a commitment to the process of reaching across the aisle.

      Eh. Neera was all-in. I doubt you're going to find anyone strictly worse. Just differently flavored.

      I don't think Biden really wants an austerity hawk. He just wants a team player. When the time comes to say "We're changing the budget" he wants a lackey who will announce "This will save us so much money!" without batting an eye or checking the fine print.

        Hey, big true. As much as libs have been talking about it recently, this is one of those jobs where you're only as powerful as president lets you be. They'll have no problem getting a boring team player in.
