Absolute trash.
I would argue that banning hate groups makes things better over the very long term because there's less ability for those ideas to grow. Like before fatpeoplehate was banned, their weird terminology would leak out into threads all over reddit, and it didn't get much better immediately after they were removed from the site. But nowadays I don't really see their specific brand of fatphobia.
I think that might only be true if advocacy groups aren't also banned. And while Reddit hasn't been as quick on the banhammer there, the existence of this site (which when on reddit was one of the only non-specific subs that was solidly against oppression in any form) shows that it has driven those that might be counterbalancing hate groups, or at least ensuring that the general subs turn into a massive shitshow.

how long have you been using Reddit for? it's a lot better now than it was around 2016, for instance.
They always were everywhere, it wouldn't be reddit otherwise
