Y'all. Matt Breunig does not think Chinese people purposefully salted the earth with covid. Jesus christ.
Wasn't this guy on chapo with his sister like a week ago?
Can we please change the site name to Hexbear :hexbear-shining:
For your sanity please don’t look into these people any further
And no, hex bear is a stupid name.
It's a better name than being named after a sub that was named after a podcast that was named after a drug dealer, imo.
yeah i'm fine with changing the name but can we not do it for a shitty meme that happened to be popular when the sub got nuked?
We need to stop using chapo. The podcast is bad. The discourse here - flawed and sus as it can be at times - has moved so far beyond where those podcast hosts are at. They will be flirting with class reductionism and getting angry at NYT columnists for the next 20 years and become increasingly irrelevant to a left that is, dare I say, slowly getting... better?
They should have been dead to us after they basically ignored the BLM protests.

What the fuck does this even mean? ChapoChat is a silly lefty shitpost website where people occasionally effort post about how you shouldn't mock people who are obsessed with cartoon bunnies. You think this website is going to start a revolution or something? Lol
Sorry, but at least the podcast is actually entertaining. ChapoChat is mostly just annoying.
Chapo.chat has its head so far up its own ass at this point. It's really hard to keep coming back here. Either you don't post, you post and get cancelled (or censored for vague mod rules), or you're forced to argue lefter-than-thou tryhards in struggle sessions.
Pretty much. Amazes me how many users take this place seriously.

The goal isn't to have 10 perfect leftists totally isolated from society. The goal is to figure out how to take people who aren't leftists right now and turn them into leftists.
Them shitting on "prestigious" journalists is probably the best thing they do, but I agree overall. The community has come a long way and "Chapo Trap House Fan Community" has probably covered about 2% of what we do or talk about for a while.
I remember multiple episodes about the protest what are you talking about?
They not only talked about the protests plenty -- at least some of them talked about how they went out and joined them.
A big chunk of people who say the podcast blows don't listen to it. They get their impressions of it by essentially playing telephone, which produces bad takes like the above and other mischaracterizations. As long as someone's even close to on our side, we should be accurate about what they're saying before we start shitting on them for it.
For example, Matt talked on his twitch stream multiple times about having just come from one protest or another. This line of critique of the show has never been a good one.
i swear 99% of the people who shit on the podcast know basically nothing about them lol except that they don't conform to their exact kind of leftism
The podcast does have some bad takes, or more correctly it has some good initial analysis and follows it up with shitty praxis recommendations. Like the latest episode where they're like "the Senate stuff doesn't mean anything anymore, ignore it". Yeah, it's pointless, which is exactly why we should be throwing rocks at it.
That said, most of what people here think about the pod is just Amber rolling a 1 on her random leftist take table.
They have some bad takes, as do we all (except me obviously). It's fine to criticize them over that, but let's criticize what they actually say or don't say. We really shouldn't be inventing reasons to be mad at each other.
Half of the early episodes are them laughing at people who accused them of being fash lol
It's been going on for years.
I think it's coming from the same place as "why aren't they using their platform to organize"? They're just a comedy podcast. I think part of why Virgil left is because he was the only one who wanted to own up to that responsibility.
They did a ton of organizing for Bernie. But yeah it's a podcast about dunking on libs, it's not some vanguard of the American left.
didn't they have entire episodes about the BLM protests? and also some of them literally livestreamed themselves at one of the protests lol.
To be fair there’s only 3 chapos and a couple thousand posters on here
As I recall it they were radio silent as things were ramping up, as though there were waiting to gage which way the wind was blowing before eventually doing some real milk toast episodes on it once it was too culturally important to ignore.
I remember the subreddit freaking out about them being radio silent, which lasted for like 3-4 days until their next episode came out.
Not a very funny one, but then I'm not the comedy Czar.
I mean... It well missed the mark haha. I laugh at just about everything, too.
Yes. That or he'll post stuff he knows gets a rise out of people (abolishing gas stoves). This is like taking something Don Hughes says literally.
I N D U C T I O N
(I've used one, it kinda just felt like a "good" electric stove)
That, and just purposefully saying ridiculous nonsense. I know we're supposed to hate on the sub now, but at least everyone there seemed to "get" Matt Bruenig and other such weirdos.
lmao yeah, Matt Bruenig is a huge piece of shit.
Definitely hasn’t done more good for the working class in America than almost anyone on this website including OP.
This except it's vaccines and mostly going to Africa and other developing countries. Can someone make that one?
only donated to the patreon of People's Policy Project for a few months, but now I want that money back
I'm always amazed that the posters on here need people to be unequivocally good or unequivocally bad, and all the evidence of it must either be what is immediately happening at the present or a single out of context thing from years ago. Seeing from this thread that apparently we've gone back to pretending that the podcast is reactionary and anti-BLM (even though they covered the events and went to their local marches). Because of course it can't be at all complicated, they can't be pro-BLM while also siding with people like Taibbi on some issues, it must be the case that their BLM episodes never even existed and the podcast ignored the entire movement.
Some people have fully bought into that because 4chan Nazis hid their far right politics behind irony, then all irony must endorse the subject matter. Which always seemed so absurd, especially when you project onto people you are familiar with views which they've repeatedly mocked and have espoused very much the opposite.
This site’s reading comprehension and understanding of context is at absolute rock bottom
I've seen too many leftist communities just take it as an article of faith that they're going to get betrayed by everyone sooner or later.
Whoa Matt Bruenig deleted his entire Twitter history after posting this.
I know Elizabeth has an autodelete thing so tweets disappear after a bit. Maybe same?
Nah Liz auto deletes all tweets after 24h. Matt doesn’t, he just nuked all his tweets a moment ago.
So what joke is Bruenig trying to make here? That leftists decry racism even when it's only done ironically (because a white socdem could never really be racist of course)?
It must be deleted, or else made up. Wouldn’t be surprised if it were true but yikes nevertheless
It's 100% real, not joking here. I didn't make an archive link but maybe someone else did
edit: i would like to say some folks say he got "hacked" but i don't know anything about that
I think we all have good faith intentions here. That said, fomenting discord with racism accusations is a COINTELPRO classic, and apparently quite effective.
