My mom is telling my older brother to apply to be a warehouse worker in Amazon because it pays more than minimum wage in my state (which is Maryland). I've heard about the horror stories about workers who work there and how they almost never get bathroom breaks and work for longer than they have to. I've tried bringing it up once, but she completely dismissed me. What should I say that will convince her?
Probably focus on your brother instead since they might actually have some skin in the game. She probably doesn't care.
Okay. I've talked to him about it, and it seems like he might be on my side.
Honestly, places like target pay more than minimum wage too, and will be just a shitty employer, verses borderline sweatshop
My sister's boyfriend's mom was an Amazon warehouse worker. She broke her ankle on the job and was made to finish her shift.
Try appealing with an anecdote. They work on some people when facts don't.
It’ll be interesting to see if unionization picks up across the country. It could become at least a humane place to work at some point.
A guy literally died on the warehouse floor and no one went to him for like 20 minutes https://www.business-humanrights.org/en/latest-news/usa-amazon-warehouse-worker-who-died-of-heart-attack-at-work-reportedly-left-on-the-floor-for-20-minutes-before-receiving-treatment/
how feasible would it be for your brother to find a trade apprenticeship or work on a CDL? It's not a quick job obviously but if he needs a plan then he'd almost certainly be better off in as little as a year.
He's already halfway done with college, it's probably too late to find a trade.
