Because apparently some of you liberals forgot.

Your personal consumption habits are not politics but aesthetics.

I don't care if you eat hamburgers every meal and wash it down with a nice refreshing smoke of crack - if you want a world where workers call the shots - then you're a comrade of mine.

tbf it's in their own channel, but holy shit like this is the opposite of intersectionality and leftist unity.

It's just super strange. I feel like if anarchists or MLs were acting this way, they'd instantly be condemned for sectarianism. I actually really like veganism, I'm not quite there yet but I've cut down my animal consumption like 80% during the pandemic because I'm more conscious of what I eat. I think this is a good space to talk about it, but how it's been done isn't very productive IMO

We seem to be at a point now where saying "ML's are poopooheads" or "anarchists are doodoopants" is haram, but saying "bloodmouths are murdering rapists" is just fine.

All I can say is, good fucking luck growing the site.

It's frustrating because I think the rules against sectarianism work really well, I've seen some really good conversations and effort posts from people of different inclinations, I don't really think the same is true for how veganism has been talked about on this site.

I hate that word "carnist." It's so pretentious. Just say omnivore or meat-eater. Don't cobble together a new word out of Latin so it sounds serious.

Who'd have thought giving carte blanche to a reddit circle-jerk would lead to dumb infighting and le epic bait posts?

They get banned from reddit and immediately get mod-support here. Fun stuff that will definitely grow the site like people had hoped.

r/chapotraphouse got banned, and a small subset of us ended up here -- a more passionate, more online subset of the sub's userbase. Bringing people from a banned vegan circlejerk subreddit here seems like a VERY bad idea.

Who'd have thought a splinter site run heavily by western leftist teens was going to end up poorly managed?

Flashbacks to when teenage me joined a group of shitposters that split off from a previously existing forum

I don’t see why animal “liberation” would be beneficial to humans or workers specifically. Take India for example. Hinduism is one of the world’s largest religions. It’s been around for over 2000 years. The cow and the products it produces are essential to many Indian cultures. As many of us know Hindus treat the cow with the utmost respect, yet they still use dairy products. My girlfriend’s denomination, Arya samajis, use a ritual fire called a havan to make sacrifices, usually ghee, or clarified butter. Animal “liberation” to many vegans would involve telling millions of people around the world that what they eat, how they worship, how they live their lives and take care of their children, is wrong. I don’t think telling indigenous people to adjust their lifestyles based on the moral squeamishness of holier than thou western “leftists” has anything to do with Marxism but yeah I’m sure in a communist world everybody will be eating nothing but bricks of tofu and multivitamins

This isn't really a good point imo, there's plenty of things wrong with how the majority of the world does things. It's fair to criticize, IMO.

I do agree with this point to a certain extent, though not all vegans are white leftists. I do think that eventually animal products should be and will be phased out, but this isn't an exclusively Marxist forum.

Can you lock and remove this please? It's going to go keep going here otherwise.
