Psychics, Faith Healers, Mediums, Astrology, I don’t think these things are very good, I think they are in fact, bad, and fake. *Slight flashing images for t...
Yeah, his interests and politics and general vibe reminds me of a friend from my masters days who's started gaining actual political consciousness after years of gamerbro self-declared "centrism". Two years ago he thought banning fascists from Twitter and punching Nazis was bad because "where do you draw the line?!? 😭" and he's no longer saying dumb shit like that, bless his heart, but he still doesn't know anything about China he hasn't learned on reddit. Still, heard him telling somebody to watch an Adam Curtis movie the other day, and he's loving Citations Needed, so I have hope for his reeducation. Be patient with our noob comrades, folks.
If you have a second to sum up what the actual deal was with the Devotion banning, I'd appreciate hearing it, because the last time I tried to find any side to the story that wasn't like, redditors declaring it the worst atrocity of communism since that guy maybe got run over by a tank or something, all I saw were such disastrous takes I decided that it wasn't worth the brainhurt to continue.
As far as I understand there were multiple assets in the file that insult not just Xi but mainlanders in general(Of course reddit just cares about the Xi part), this made Chinese gamers obviously really fucking mad and they started review bombing and stuff like that.
But then on another level the publisher was based in China which means that since they technically published material that breaches the law which(I dont know the specifics) bans certain kinds of insulting/mocking imagery towards public officials, their license to publish games was put in jeopardy, which caused Devotion to be taken down and have a lot of trouble finding new publishers cause China is such a huge market and they dont wanna risk their business there.
Devotion now has become more of a political statement than something you just enjoy for its quality, its the Trump beans but for western leftists and sinophobic gamers to announce how epic owned Xi is.
