The speciesism on this site, which I'll take as, for example, people denying any possible comparison between the logic of slavery and that of industrial animal exploitation, has been pretty fucking disgusting to see.

The use of bad faith arguments and weaponising of First Nations traditional practices to defend eating meat has been similarly gross. I felt that the transphobia from before was something that could be banned away, but I feel like speciesism is so ingrained in many users that there won't be anyone left if you were ban them.

Also, the responses to people who are upset at not being vegan have been pretty crap. It's not wrong to feel bad about eating animals. The part that's wrong is to think that doing something bad means you are worthless, particularly when capitalism makes it extremely hard to just like, continuously make good decisions and do good things.

I don't think you can really say it's not comparable when painting black people as more akin to livestock than like, people, was a significant part of the rhetoric on why slavery was permissible. The comparison was directly used to justify slavery, and the logic of industrial capitalist exploitation and extermination is still lurking in agriculture today.

That's not to say that slavery and industrial animal agriculture are literally the same thing, but it's still extremely concerning as we hurtle towards ecofascism.
