(Note: This isn't necessarily aimed at another specific post that's on here atm, it just got me thinking.)

It feels like these type of memes have been cropping up more the last few years especially, and that they're an expression of nervousness from a culture anxious about how dramatically the popular perception of gender/sex is changing.

Lol that meme that got 100+ votes here was basically "girls would meet their grandmother, boys would save the natives" like on some "girls do be watching soap operas" shit

YEAH!!! Girls do: Insert boring, practical, and responsible thing. Boys do: Adventurous and ambitious and interesting thing. Format sucks. It is insidious because it's on its face it isn't that horrible to be stereotyped as doing the average or "smart" or normal thing to do but it robs women of the potential for character and nuance.

100%, don't see why there's no memes where the girls are the interesting multifaceted chads

God those memes are annoying as shit, I can't even listen to Sea Shanties on Youtube at 3AM like a normal person without all the comments being "Girls: Ewwww sailing is grosssss Boys: This" or some similar juvenile nonsense.

Every time you think you're reading too deeply into it, you're barely scratching the surface. Men are believed to do important, special things while women are believed to handle frivolous, fluffy, stupid things. Men talk politics and sport and culture, women talk about family and gossip. We have the stupidest, baby brained culture.

like it is the dudes rock thing but worse on gender conformity so yeah you are correct like i am sure many people who made these were not doing that on purpose but it kinda is the effect

yeah, i am not complaining at the dudes rock thing just using it as example for the format, like i always found the dudes rock thing to be good overall, as it was either dudes rock celebrating man dumbness or non ironic just support for our boys which is good because male spaces online could do with being nicer to the other boys, this is like if the dudes rock main bit was a implied GIRLS SUCK

I think you're exactly right. And I think that's being done with racism too. There are lots of ways to meme that can't be easily diagnosed as overt racism or sexism, that still serve to reinforce racist and sexist attitudes because they fall in these in between spaces.

Nah you're right. This kind of memes is deffo aimed at eventually turning full misogynist. I've already seen a bunch that were vomit material. My mistake for posting it
