Maoist Third Worldism all started from a group called MIM (Maoist International Movement), a very secretive group (understandable), that was founded by a bunch of Harvard Grads. Besides their MTWism, they also had bizarre takes like "All sex is rape under patriarchal society" based mostly on ivory tower feminist academia, but they also had a presence in the prisons. Their bizarre demise was very suspect, their founder/chairman was Henry Park (Harvard grad), and made a bunch of strange blog posts about getting honey trapped while working for the US government, he was declared dead a while later. Was MTWism just some CIA fuckery against first world Communists and to mess with the Maoist movements (Peru, India, Phillipines etc...)?
