Magazine: not much to say, get a bunch.
To expand on this slightly : get A BUNCH of high-capacity mags NOW, because those will 100% be going away again under President Corpsebreath and VP Sassy Ronald Reagan.
Please stop making fun of people for shooting .22. It's tough because I'm a leftist, I love this sub, and I work hard to be a good person and practice good praxis, but I'm also 28 and shoot .22.
I own several .22 guns and they're my favorite to shoot. I was making a statement of fact.
A decent crossbow (where I live) costs about £150 for a basic, but good quality one, bolts are £10 for 6 decent ones, but they are reusable
For defence though you will want broadheads and they are significantly more expensive, I buy screw on broadhead tips for my standard bolts, and they are £10 for a pack of 3, but again, reusable.obviously they have far reduced range than a firearm, are borderline impossible to conceal, are very slow to reload unless you practice extensively with it, and even then it's still slow, you will need spare strings and a quiver, which adds bulk if you were planning to go anywhere with it.
if you're buying an AR pistol as suggested here, please understand that there are important legal differences between a "pistol" and a "rifle" according to the National Firearms Act that have some felony-level pitfalls if ignored. See here and here for details.
TL;DR is, if your AR has a barrel length of less than 16", you cannot legally put a stock on it without registering it with the ATF as a "short barreled rifle" (costs $$ and time). If you want to avoid registration, it must have a "pistol brace" which is ostensibly not intended to be shouldered. To reiterate- "pistol brace" is fine, but buying a $30 M4-style stock and putting it on the gun suggested above is a felony if not registered. Additionally, vertical fore-grips are also a no-no, again with potential felony consequences if not registered.
ALSO, none of this takes into account local/state level laws which may apply to firearms of this type. Definitely inform yourself of what laws apply to your area before making any firearms purchase.
I am not a lawyer and this is not intended as legal advice, just a heads up for informational purposes.
What's your budget? If you've got some money, an AR platform on a FightLite SCR lower is legal in NY AFAIK. Alternatively, look into the Ruger PCC, which doesn't have the power of a full-size rifle but is cheap and handy.
All in all this is still like a 600 dollar endeavor... if this doesn’t work for you, go to a pawn shop and pick out a cheap handgun.
I've fired guns, but never bought one, so I'm far from an authority. This is the pistol I'm looking at buying: 9mm, can hold a 17-round magazine, the reviews look good, and is in the $300 range.
If this is garbage, someone please tell me, but it looks like a good option if folks are trying to get armed without breaking the bank.
They're alright. The front won't fall off on them. If you're buying the newer G series or some of their revolvers, you're okay.
i know fuck all about guns but i HAVE seen this video

maybe they've gotten better?
Definitely not a good look for the manufacturer. It looks like that's a different model, though, and that it's been recalled:
In 2016, the PT24/7 was included in the settlement of a lawsuit which alleged that it, and certain other Taurus handguns, could fire accidentally if dropped and that Taurus covered up the safety defects. Without admitting guilt, the company paid $39 million, extended the warranties, and recalled the pistols for repair.
I wonder how common it is to test whether that type of accidental firing can happen or how quickly it would be discovered after the gun hits the market.
I've heard some bad things about Tarus. There are videos of people shooting then just by shaking. Your best bet would be to go with a used American brand
You can get a taurus and have a great gun.
You can get the same model and have a paperweight.
Their customer service doesn't know the difference.
gotcha. i personally wont be buying anything of the sort due to my mental state but i just like knowing the situation. i got plenty of practice on firearms as a kid at least so i know the basics
