the next time around, the US will do NOTHING.

I heard this after the '08 Wall Street Bailout. And when the wheels started coming off in 2020, I assumed this was going to be an even bigger one.

Except it wasn't. All the money guys circled the wagons and saved the banks before anything serious happened. The Feds shat out $1400 checks and UI and other benefits. We got a vaccine out in record time. And then we fattened up the federal budget by another trillion dollars to make up for the shortfall in private spending.

I don't know what the US would do in the face of a more-serious killer virus. But I suspect there is a core group of people that do know and will have a plan and intend to execute on it the midst of a panic.

I just don't think that plan really does much to benefit me and mine. We'll just get an even more rarefied country-club-surrounded-by-police state.

Doing absolutely nothing about it except maybe some disaster profiteering. That's what's next. :stonks-up:

I've got my anti-ich meds ready. To my Canadian friends who can't buy fish meds OTC: good luck.

Tonight I saw a plague rat in the wild and gave them my standard "When you go into the ICU, have your next-of-kin send me a photo of you looking stupid on a ventilator so I can get the /r/hermancainaward karma" reply. Best case scenario they click the link, see themselves in any or all of the winners, and be a fucking responsible adult. Other best case result, the next one gets to learn from their post. Other best case result, they're bullied out of every normal community.

Their brain 2.0 response was that they have unvaccinated COVID right now and "It's a fuckin flu". While I'm not looking forward to double epidemics, if real influenza makes a show again when there is no medical capacity and those patients directly compete with COVID patients for the same resources then it will shut people who use this line up. One way or another it will shut them up.
