Great news: they won’t be sex bots, they’ll be military murder bots.

Secretly teaching radical feminism to the robots at the sexbot factory, cackling to myself safe in the knowledge that whoever opens its box is due a five hour lecture on the patriarchy and how historical oppression of women shaped the restrictive contemporary gender roles.

Capitalism can and will take anything potentially good and use it in the most abusive and destructive ways that might make number go up.

Yeah but if there's ever a reasonably-priced sex bot, I know I'm buying that.

          I don't know. It's a complicated thing.

How many would be used to help people? How many would be used for people to act out their sick abuse fantasies?

who would like a safe way to experience intimacy without the stress and worry

Yeah! A characteristically human function, just without all the messy and unpredictable things that make it human!

Like playing sports, with no physical exertion so disabled people can do it, and with nothing at stake so it doesn't overwhelm anyone.

I’m a transhumanist, I don’t believe in being human in the first place

              Fair enough.

I think there's a lot of value in experiencing the physicality, discomfort, exertion, imperfection, non-guaranteed, risky aspect of living. Don't get me wrong, I want to see an end to most illness, the extension of the human body, and the ability to biologically reset our brains so we can live again as if waking from a deep sleep. But I think being an organism, having a body is a good thing. I think that in many ways the search for perfection removes meaningfulness.

You know how the terminator was based on a european body builder? Yep. They repurposed the old design template.

Nah, the first robots will replace workers, which will happen as soon as the tech exists and then becomes cheaper per hour than workers, industry by industry. Then after the ladder is fully pulled up, the sex bots will release available with a subscription you can maybe just barely afford the ad-supported tier of if you really cheap out on food and rent and drop all your other subscriptions. Your robot girlfriend will weave advertisements into conversations and slowly brainwash you into being entirely dependent on this subscription and to buy other products you can scarcely afford.

I'm actually pro-sexbot on this one. One day, and this day will come soon, there will be a "good enough" sex robot. It won't be quite as good as a real woman, but it will be good enough. They'll probably cost about half as much as a car. So, if men can afford a car, men can probably also afford a sex robot. And if not, you can rent.

Men will no longer need women for constant sex urges and can evaluate a woman without the urgency of sex constantly pushing them. The dream will be realized: Men will no longer judge women by their bodies. And that is going to be a gigantic leap forward for our culture.

Or it might have the opposite effect and sexists will declare women obsolete because they only see them as useful for sex and housework

But women won't be useful for sex. That's the whole point of sexbots. Men will be able to evaluate women without considering sex. That's been women's demand for...a long, long time. And it will become reality sooner than anyone thinks.

Exactly my point, a lot of sexists think "when we have sex robots, women are going to be obsolete."

They don't see women as having worth outside of that. So when they no longer need them for sex they'll consider them useless.

What I'm trying to say is that sexbots won't change how sexists view women.

It will keep them from wanting to talk to women so it is still a win.

What I'm trying to say is that it will divorce "I want sex from a woman" from "I want a woman". Too much of the latter is driven by the former. Men will finally be able to look at women for who they are as people, instead of a pair of tits and an ass. This is something that women have been demanding for a long, long time. And it's finally going to come true.

Come now, look on the bright side of things. Don't be such a Debbie downer all the time.

What happens when people have no interest in sex with each other because neither one measures up to how good the robot is?

This is extremely optimistic, and therefore incorrect. More likely is that men will expect women to perform sexually the same way the sexbots do, and their objectification of women will get worse and women will suffer more than they already do
