wtf is up with Singapore, I know it's a capitalist hellhole, but I read so many stories of rich assholes abusing their domestic workers, similar to Gulf Monarchies.

Worst comment I’ve read on the internet today

Your inflated sense of self-righteousness is vastly disproportionate to your lack of ignorance. "According to a Straits Times article, maids coming to Singapore from the Philippines should be using only up to half of their monthly salary to repay a loan, up to an amount of $1,100. This covers her pre-employment expenses such as training and medical examination." https://dollarsandsense.sg/much-cost-hire-maid-singapore/#:~:text=Placement%20Fee%2FMaid%20Loan&text=According%20to%20a%20Straits%20Times,as%20training%20and%20medical%20examination. But they don’t get a salary for almost a year, right? That should answer your question. So now answer mine: would a fresh grad doctor paying off his loans be considered a slave? How about a pilot bonded to SIA? Please go learn what slavery actually is before throwing around accusations.

Yeah this is the comment they were replying to

But they don’t get a salary for almost a year, right? They owe both their agency and the family they work for. So they’re stuck as a slave until their debts are paid off. That’s totally messed up. You all need to own the fact that you’re just slave masters.

      Yes and yes.

"Oh! they're a highly paid slave that will earn a lot and be high status when they gain their freedom" DOESN'T MAKE THE SLAVERY OK!!

No, because a doctor can get on a plane and leave, and the maid can't.

A lot of redditors twisting themselves into pretzels to say “akshually it’s not slavery, they were financially compensated :wojak-nooo:”
