I absolutely love the way the blaster is treated as if it were an actual firearm (AS IT FUCKING SHOULD BE) and the scene with the two cops carries all the weight that it would were it taking place in an alley in New York with a regular handgun. Just from that scene alone it already feels "real" in a way that most Star Wars media does not.
I haven't watched it yet, but every lib in my life says they can't get into it. Looking forward to it! :lenin-heart:

What feels refreshing about this series is that it shows the revolutionaries as complicated individuals who are compelled to act in morally questionable ways while still making it clear that they're unambiguously the good guys. I guess it's hard to both sides when one is the Evil Empire. Just nice to see modern media that isn't explicitly counter revolutionary.
I wish George Lucas had pushed the Empire only allowed humans angle, because a lot of people watching the original movies missed that.
What I really like about the human supremacy undercurrent in the galactic empire is how inconsistent it often is...which oddly makes it feel more real and fascistic in a way.
Different writers have had different interpretations over the years of course.....but given that he had a zabrak apprentice and made a Chiss one of the highest ranking admirals in the empire I personally really like the idea that palpatine himself was 1000% comfortable using human supremacy cynically as a way to gain political power even if he himself didn't actually believe in any of it.

They're FINALLY doing what was promised on the box when they made Rogue One. I asked someone I knew if the show was doing that, and they said "well kinda" but I think that person is a lib. I just watched the first episode and it really feels like it.
You could tell Rogue One was gonna be this because of the trailer - and then they cut out the damn line from the trailer! And they turned it into just... the Star Wars formula. Gotta do the thing in time!! Boom!
it is great. I was star wars fatigued and decided to give the first ep a shot because I like Tony Gilroy stuff. I quickly realized that all SW media has been childish and shallow. Andor is the first SW media I've seen that builds real worlds and makes it's institutions and characters feel real.

All the Star Wars movies save the 1st one were run through endless test audiences, and you can tell.
These new one off Star Wars series are true creator-led projects and we are seeing a well-worked vision shine through in parts.

I guess I'll give it a shot. I don't really like Star Wars or its universe, but then again I never liked League of Legends either and that sure didn't stop them from making a fantastic show.

Haven't finished the final episodes but It's so fucking good and it only kept getting better. It's so depressing because especially given its low numbers as weighed against other star wars media it's likely to be the only one of it's kind 😭😭😭
It has low numbers? Every one I've talked to and everyone on :reddit-logo: seems to love it.
It's... complicated.
Suffice it to say figuring out actual concrete numbers is probably difficult even for Disney themselves in the world of streaming and it's so opaque because companies like them have a financial interest in keeping it that way.
The general accepted takeaway from most sites I have looked up is: "the numbers are solid for a streaming tv show....but not for a star wars tv show." It's underperforming against the rest of the brand...which means that while the show itself may not be a failure it probably isn't sending the message to lucasfilm: "This!!! More of this! This is the star wars people have been desperate for!!!!!"
Which is a real shame...
Well damn cause other than The Mandalorian it's the only good disney star wars. Bad Batch was solid I guess but definitely a kids show.

Also the scene with Mon Mothma at the fancy dinner party and the reversal of the line "perhaps my politics are a bit strong for your taste" felt like the writers talking directly to liberals and giving a nod to us commies.
