capitalism is hell. it should be natural to live with your parents. but the west trains parents to be shitheads to their kids and to kick them out when theyre 18 so that a landlord can siphon the family's wealth and labor away.
my parents are kinda shit about my transition but i suppose our superior slavic brainpans overrides this wedge and we have a house that is multigenerational despite being in the great satan. even then, with how jobs are set up, im still renting because my workplace expects me to come in every now and again to a far away place. if residential areas were more dense it would keep the wealth of the family up but even with our alternative family model im forced out thanks to the fact that jobs are spread out all over the place :shrug-outta-hecks:
in europe at least this is far less of an issue as the countries are generally smaller. they are doing their best however to become more like america in this regard, they are siphoning a lot of labor from the east as we speak to create this same issue with an even more colonial aesthetic.
i always thought lawn shit was funny and depressing. my parents would get shit for doing the bare minimum all the time, but come winter, all the lawns looked the same, including the ones meticulously watered, fertilized, and cared for. they refused to water and fertilize it because it was wasted money, instead preferring to do backyard gardening. theyd mow and pick weeds out by hand to save money. dont blame them at all.
ive seen some in unincoporated or non-hoa parts of cities but almost all housing is in suburbs with insane hoas that expect you to pluck grass down to 2 inches with your anus every saturday. and these hoas are usually set up by the corporations that build the housing in the first place who rentseek via hoa fees. so even if you 'own' your property (you probably dont because you took a loan out for it and pay rent via interest to loaners) you still pay 'rent' to the HOA. if you dont pay the fee or follow the rules they can levy fines on your house. and the rules can be supremely inane and if the hoa board doesnt like you personally theyll just send people to spy on you to look for minor infractions to fine you on. these people tend to do this for fun and arent paid.
whats sad is praires and wildgrass looks so good and often greener than any lawn with literally zero work being done on it. whenever i drive around with my bf i always point out how lush they look :deeper-sadness: we saw this one vast field that looked soft and neon green almost the other day and had lots of winter blooming flowers
and the sadder thing is we could just choose to plant wild grasses that only grow to certain heights and leave it at that rather than importing foreign grasses that look like shit. but that also means you must be OK with some weeds which is bad apparently
my parents got fined once over having 'weeds' growing in their flowerbeds that werent classified as weeds by anyone with a brain and was able to fight against the fine in a small claims court lmao. they won because the HOA didnt show up. they were just flowers for pollinators (to attract them to the garden) that were out of season.

Say what you will about :anti-italian-action:, but thank God this is the one brainworm we largely don't have. Shame that house has to be in a suburb though.
Idk maybe it’s just brain worms from living in capitalism, but I really like my parents and I would hate to live with them again. Even as an adult there’s a weird vibe with having your parents around, even though my parents and I just smoke weed in the living room. My relationship with them is also significantly better since I moved out.
its brainworms, also probably bad house design that doesnt have the idea of multigenerational housing in mind. multiple entrances and exits, plenty of parking, multiple living rooms, bathrooms. sometimes a second kitchen. ground level rooms for old people. stuff like that. everyone forks in to making it all better for the whole too with encouragements to modify the house to make it better for yourself and others.
Oh god adding the word “multi” makes it so much worse, living with my parents sounds shitty, ever seeing my extended family more frequently than every 2 years or so sounds far worse
my grandma is a communist so having her around is honestly a delight. she pops by for a couple years at a time but usually stays back in czechia. dads parents tend to stay in the place though, i dont notice them much they do their own thing. we have a frankly huge family thats everywhere. like i have maybe like 70 cousins lol
Ah yeah that sounds great. My grandma was a christo-fascist who donated to anti-lgbt causes and was obsessed with Joel Osteen. Thankfully she’s dead now.
Of the living ones we’ve got my mom’s abusive father and my ex-navy grandma who’s far and away the least bad, but her husbands kid’s a fucking cop.
The vast majority of my extended family are the shittiest christo-fascist southern white people you’ve ever met, so I hope you understand why living anywhere in their vicinity sounds like hell.
yeah i mean thats the thing though. we have a different culture. we're taught not to fuck with other family members and those that do that have a chance of being excluded. like i know some shitty christians in our family but if they fuck with me that gets on everyone's nerves. no drama allowed. helps that my commie grandma is the matriarch-in-charge and orders everyone around and supports me to the hilt.

a weed is a plant in the wrong place there cannot by definition be a weed in an area you have elected to let grow wild
