Subjective experience don't real. Everything is a shitty isekai video game. Lay down in a ditch and die for the line. :so-true:

How fucking bleak it must be, even for the ruling class, to delude themselves into believing there's no inner life, no subjective experience, no consciousness in their own romantic partners, or anyone else around them for that matter. Sounds like a special sort of delusional hell to me, except they like it that way. :kombucha-disgust:

I think this is the most perfect time to do the :zizek-preference: "PURE SCHNIFF IDEALISM" bit as it seems like that the closer you get to becoming a high prophet of Capitalism, the further you detach yourself from the material world into the ephemeral world of idealism

Simulation theory is creationism for tech bros.

Calling people "NPCs" is a cop-out to not have to engage with why the opposition might be believing the things they believe. It's intellectual laziness at best, "narcissism but as an ideology" at worst.

Simulation theory is creationism for tech bros.

It actually truly is creationism for techbros, up to and including the popular-with-tech-engineers belief that surely everything was created by a single designer for some planned purpose.

You can’t even call it theory because theory involves hard evidence at a scientific level to support something to be called theory. But the worst part is that this is just an orientalist understanding of “Hindu” and Buddhist concepts.

To be honest even if I somehow had some form of schizophrenic episode where I genuinely believed I was the only person or handful of people who were 'real' and everyone else was some sort of simulated NPC I'd still treat people decently because I'm not a fucking monster.

I'm nice to people even in video games most of the time. I don't derive pleasure from undue cruelty, even upon fictional people. :edgeworth-shrug:

I'm seeing this NPC shit pop up so much. First with zoomers on Tiktok

This has to be due to alienation right? No way countries like Colombia, Cuba, DPRK have this same NPC shit going on

:stupidpol: "hm i wonder if there's some reason, or perhaps a number of overlapping reasons why the internal complexity of people can seem more or less obvious to me, reasons which might have as much to do with how i relate to others as with their actual personalities? no, i think it's far more likely that there are two types, real people and fake people, and luckily i'm a real person, since i get my opinions from an anime imageboard."

There have been some ideologies that claimed that some people are born as less people than other people, and that they weren't fully valid people and so hurting them was less bad, or even good. :scared-fash:

If you don't think there's at least a tiny chance you're an NPC

wtf how does someone write this outside of a disassociative episode?

Everyone knows they're not an NPC because they experience shit, I think therefore I am.

I get how someone with no human connection might question whether other people actually have souls, but yourself?

Some modern bazingas twist Gautama Buddha's message into what they call "Dark Buddhism" and in some ways it's worse than its ideological cousin "Dark Enlightenment."

All those teachings about attachment leading to suffering are twisted into "do a lot of pop mindfulness meditation to get as rich as possible" and all the teachings of compassion and care for fellow living beings are twisted into "lol nothing really matters, so it's cool and good to be a cruel asshole." :so-true:

He's doing a pseudodeep attempt at introspection that implies that "simulation theory" must be true and if you disagree, you must be a mere NPC and therefore don't feel pain and don't actually experience suffering in a valid way. It's an attempt to rhetorically bully people into believing that bazinga shit. :scared-fash:

It works great with effective altruism as well. As nothing is real, but also it’s fine to be a dick because you are going to leave the Matrix. As doing bad to fake people is Fine.

It's old fashioned solipsism, but with no one around that dares to say "no, that's wrong. You're not the only thinking, feeling human being in the world, even if your limited subjective experience and narcissism make it hard to comprehend that."

actually my cat is the only thing in the universe that actually exists, we all exist only as her awareness needs us. I exist at this instant so the rest of you exist at this instant. As soon as she falls asleep we all stop existing.

Am I at least a cool NPC with a quest and that can become a follower? Or one of the lame ones with a single, repeating line of dialogue and the camera doesn't even bother to zoom in on me?

    I’m actually a quest giver.

I give people the quest of logging the fuck off for a later reward (not being so online)
