i love when IPs full of potential get canned just as they were finding their footing, it's such a smart decision from netflix execs. also lets already greenlight another family guy-looking piece of crap called Dinkledoink, featuring the eponymous wisecracking antropomorphic politically incorrect pig, Dinkedoink. You can almost smell the fart jokes coming out of this one.

if they continued another season, union contracts would kick in and it would get more expensive.

Yeah but this was cancelled mid-season, season 2 was not over. Also I dunno, because there is like 5 seasons of big mouth and i don't know a single soul who watches big mouth. So yeah I guess there's cost vs return stuff going on, but also i don't know who is watching these trashy shows, or maybe they're super cheap to produce? maybe it's outsourced labor?

I think all the big names in big mouth got better contracts. Big stars were involved, so they probably get more leeway also.

      Because it costs money

Whereas hiring five Canadians to dub over an existing German drama costs a whole lot less

Good show. They drugged Kissinger with psilocybin and he killed himself when it made him realize the evils he's brought upon the world.

Sad to see it canceled. Fingers crossed some other publisher picks it up.

Shame. I wonder what the logic behind this sort of stuff is from Netflix. They don't seem to put value any sort of 'back catalogue' of complete content. I would think people wouldnt want to pick up half finished abandoned shows but maybe I'm nieve and in reality it doesn't impact numbers that much to just cancel the whenever. It certainly isn't good PR at least.

It's something to do with writer contracts and benefits IIRC. If a show goes on longer than a certain amount of time they have to pay normal union rates, so the only shows they keep on are either ones that are overwhelmingly popular or where there's clearly some sort of nepotism going on with the executives keeping their buddies' shows going or something.

Just don't tell them that anywhere in your UI. :think-about-it:

The most annoying bullshit is when companies keep the IP for shit they don't care about instead of relinquishing it to the creators. Like Netflix will NEVER come back to this show unless they were pressured to by fans. Which means it'll be on the 6000th page of their legal papers because they'll never think about it again.

Another reason why I continue to watch VHS tapes and DVD's. New media hasn't really shown me that it's worth investing into without the show either cancelling or taking a very stupid turn after the first two seasons.
