:reddit-logo: moment
The people of Bakhmut smile from the grave knowing I won Internet points betting they would die from the comfort of my living room.
The further some people are from the conflict zone, the hornier they get. They have nothing at stake so why not bet on other people dying, just for fun?
War is so unreal to Americans because none of them have ever endured a conflict on their home soil. I'm sure the continued decay of capitalism into fascism and worsening ecological collapse will remedy that, though :doomjak:
Civil War 2 will probably have a bunch of Chuds picnicking around the battlefront to see the war just the like first time around
Of course, I will then sneak up on them, [redacted] and then make off with their picnic baskets
Awh fuck now this place is going to be crawling with Park Rangers. I gotta get outta here.
in occupied palestine today libs hang out to watch bombings like they're a fireworks show
during the american civil war people had picnics on hillsides to watch battles
i'm sure war spectating is very old and people following and betting on the news probably happened in every war, they just didn't have the internet.
In the Civil War that happened once when it was still treated as a little rebellion and super super early on. It was Bull Run and they largely stood 5 miles away till the route. One congressman was taken captive though
I don't think this is betting. As in not for a prize or anything
They probably won't survive a hike without internet for a week, yet alone a warzone.
You know that schoolkid archetype of the asshole wussy kid who won't fight, but constantly tries to instigate other people into fighting each other? This is them, grown up.
These people need to go suit up. Easy being a war nerd on the Reddit, actually fighting isn't. They can ask their fellow redditors from r/volunteersforukraine how that went when they got blown up by cruise missiles.
Everyone who supports the Dirlewanger brigades should be required to go and join them personally, especially :reddit-logo:ers.
It's all fun and shit when their lives aren't affected, but if the tables turned
How would this even work? There’s no consensus or clear results because a morass of propaganda and fog of war makes the outcomes unintelligible and conflicting.
Do they even know what the parameters for anyone "winning" or "losing" are? As far as I can tell, for every day the war continues we all lose.
This is someone asking a question with people answering. I don't get what the issue
like would it be in better taste if it didn't use the Reddit "Tournament system" and instead was just people commenting answers on a post?
Uhhhh I guess it'd be in better taste... technically, but it's still people predicting outcomes in a war for fun?
What makes it different from someone asking or answering a question in the Ukraine mega here? I'm not understanding that part.
besides the quality of answers and the multiple choice thing
I don't know what sorts of questions are asked in the Ukraine mega thread here, so I don't know what the difference could be. This isn't someone asking questions and people answering though. This is multiple choice predictions with no discussion or analysis. This is people seeing how well they can predict the outcomes of a real war for fun and internet points.
For instance, all of those threads are locked and the top comment is from a moderator saying "Let’s get ready to ruuuummmmble!"
If you don't understand how this is bad, I can't help you and please stop replying.
