Your chemicals, oil products, etc are all made possible by the highest cancer rates in the USA. And no one cries about THAT on the national news every day.

Racism is alive and well in Amerikkka.

America is an apartheid police state and always will be. :amerikkka:

good news no Black people live here

The derailment happened less than 20 miles from Youngstown OH, a city that is 40% African American and has a 35% poverty rate. Also the median income of East Palestine is 30% below the national average, its hardly an elite enclave. Also if the national news has been "crying" about the derailment, rather than doing what they can to sweep things under the rug and avoid blaming Norfolk Southern at all costs, I've certainly missed it.

Reacting to a devastating (and potentially mobilizing) environmental and social catastrophe with knee jerk Third-Wordlism themed contrarianism is silly.

and people thought i was fearmongering for saying this will spread both east and west due to the ohio river and wind patterns. amerika has the highest cancer rate in the world bc of shit like this. vinyl chloride is a gas at room temperature and gas diffuses crazy fast. that chlorine is gonna react in the atmosphere to form heavier chlorinated compounds and start settling into the ground, the effects of this are long from over. and shit like this will keep happening more and more often unless the government decides to actually do something

It's fine, it's not like chlorine is a halogen, a group of elements that readily interacts with organic molecules.

its a good thing the people making laws governing these chemicals are required to have chemical education :agony-shivering:

iirc congresspeople decided vinyl chloride was exempt from certain hazmat protections bc they confused it with PVC (POLYvinyl chloride). anyone who has taken organic chemistry courses could tell you those are different chemicals with VERY different properties

How many people have taken orgo, though? When I first started out on my nursing education I was upset because I thought a Genchem/orgo/biochem was overkill, but now I'm like ohhhhhhhhhh, this shit is important.

yeah, and the orgo professors in amerika are usually horrible (ive had 1 bad one and 2 good ones, but the good ones were for higher levels of orgo, and the bad one taught the majority of orgo 1 classes). ppl in the UK take orgo in high school. amerikan education is a joke. and lawmakers not relying on experts for fields they have zero education in is criminal

And no one cries about THAT on the national news every day.

The national news barely touched the story until a week after the disaster.

there is a difference between systematically exposing people to toxins versus a huge disaster. also like people of that town are extremely poor and got paid $5 by the rail company. America is a shithole.

There are lots of non white people living within 20 miles of east Palestine…in an area with high cancer rates already and in the neighboring valley a new petrochemical facility built a couple years ago (the largest construction project in the US at the time iirc) that is putting even more cancerous chemicals into the air in the rust belt where abandoned shit and chemicals and trash is in the creeks and woods. Also a nuclear plant that is run by a corrupt company that I don’t have a lot of faith in.

The giant toxic cloud only affects kkkrackers and their weak white lungs, i would simply breathe it in and be fine

what I think when people talk about COVID being "endemic" (it's implied by the actual meaning of the word)
