It depends on how you look at it
- It is AI as it's doing what you'd expect an AI to do for you
- It isn't AI, as that is a term usually colloquially meaning artificial general intelligence i.e. displaying consciousness and ingenuity, which these do not display
- It isn't AI from a computer science perspective because it isn't a learning agent
I subscribe to the last one, though it's a more nuanced argument than that.
I just use gpt-4 to write bizarre stories where karl marx smokes weed with bugs bunny while they discuss the labor theory of value. Besides that, It's totally useless for any other purpose besides some cursory research
