Avian flu is gonna be wild. It's gonna be like The Stand where there's just gonna be bodies in the streets because they couldn't get time off work because the CDC doesn't wanna be too "authoritarian."

If it's not this strain of bird flu, there'll be another respiratory virus in the near future. The entire mechanism for doing something about a pandemic has pretty much been dismantled.

Yup. Can't ignore an ignore an ongoing pandemic without undermining your response to future pandemics.

The lesson libs learned from the last pandemic is absolutely going to be not trying to impose any restrictions on people so they don't lose the support of DeusVaultPatriot88

Whichever candidate promises that I get to hunt down antivaxxers with a dart gun gets my vote.

I want to use that fully auto syringe gun the medic from TF2 has.

Capital forcing people to work through a pandemic with a high mortality rate is really gonna kneecap their ability to steal money from labor, as I imagine it's much harder to do when all the workers are dying

Unrelated: it’s a shame Stephen King turned into such a lib. But The Stand - along with most of his early work i.e. when he was writing high as a kite - is actually very good.

I haven't re-read any of his older stuff since I was radicalized. Kinda worry it won't hold up. But if I'm ever in Maine, I'm gonna get arrested throwing copies of The Jakarta Method and Blackshirts and Reds over his fence.

read The Running Man, it's incredible

stephen king was fucked up on shitty beer and coke one night in 1980 and was like hey what if reality tv and late capitalism and socioeconomic decay and social stratification and society of the spectacle and nazi youth gangs and killing off the poor via environmental collapse and return of old epidemic diseases and slow grinding deterioration of material conditions and flying commercial jets into skyscrapers

Oh, yeah, totally. Read the Bachman Books in the 90's. That's what's so frustrating about him, is that he clearly gets something is wrong, but he's too wrapped up in the Cultural Hegemony of western mythology to not be a LIB

Lately, I've really been feeling the part where the poor people have to make DIY Nose Filters... doomer

In 2025, the world's economy is in shambles and America has become a totalitarian dystopia.

A mass-casualty event where the remaining group of people is led by someone extremely ancient who sees and hears things no one else does...you may be onto something
