I'm a former heroin addict (9 years clean in August) but I also have severe fibro and can't even stand that long. I'm also job hunting after losing my last job because I went to the hospital (for psych reasons) and had to call off a whole week of work. I've read up and it seems like what I should get is red vein but I have no experience with kratom.

It is physically addictive so like keep that in mind before you jump into using it

For me it wasn't very addictive and I could use it or not like coffee, but my brother's roommate literally can't stop taking it or he gets opioid withdrawal type shit

Also it's the nastiest tasting thing you will ever put in your mouth. I recommend capsules

Have had an acquaintance need to go on Suboxone to get off kratom, so I think anyone should be wary of it. Has CBD had any effects for you, if you've ever tried it?

Big second on using capsules. You can get used to the powder, I'd mix it with a small amount of water and chug it then use orange juice or something as chaser. But the capsules are so much better and easier on your stomach.

I've seen former addicts get addicted to kratom instead, which is better but not great.

Sounds like it might be a little risky for me. I can't even afford it rn though anyway. Can you even get high off it? I've seen articles saying yes and no.

Absolutely. idk if the addicts can still feel it but a first timer can get noticeably spun.

If you used to do h I doubt it

I only ever went up to 10mg oxys in a single dose and 5+g of kratom barely makes me feel anything

I agree with what pretty much everyone else said. the addiction potential is there, the effects are mild at best, and it did sometimes make me nauseous. my favorite kind was the white vein because it did feel like a slightly stronger caffeine.

I do tend to hold kratom in sort of high regard tho bc like 10 years ago my mother got addicted to opioids after she was prescribed something for pain and then couldn't stop until she found kratom and it helped her to quit.

proceed with caution if you do decide to try it, and good luck!

I had a gf that was in to it, and I dabbled with it while trying to ween off alcohol. She swore by swallowing scoops of the powder.

I never found the sensation produced by it good enough to even be considered a buzz, so, one night I (stupidly) decided to see how far I can push it.

Other users are right, you do get nauseous. I never got the sensation of euphoria I was looking for, but I did spend 30 minutes dry vomiting powder and gagging. I realized maybe it wasn't for me after that lol

Nearly died, figuratively, trying to do the scoop and swallow. Immediately triggered my gag reflex and I was coughing clouds of it. Your ex is a trooper

I've been using kratom for about 6 years. Reds are good for pain and anxiety though they tend to make most people a little sleepy.

I got pretty into it (addicted?) for awhile. Consensus seems to be that it’s mostly useful for helping kick other addictions, which I’d agree with. It’s pretty mild compared to most other drugs, and you could conceivably treat it the same way you would caffeine. I.e something you can develop a dependency on that doesn’t really fuck you up. For the most part.

I agree with what everybody else has said so I'll +1 those and say that veins are fake and there isn't really any credible science behind it

It's mostly just marketing. So don't be afraid to try greens or whites if you stumble across some that have great reviews

I kinda fell out of it because the same dosage was making me nauseous, but I never felt any physical withdrawals or addictive tendencies. I do have a friend that said he was straight hooked on it but I found it was a great way to ease the aches and pains of middle age while not really getting me buzzed. Even when I first started the high was extremely mild and I kept using it more for the energy, pain relief, appetite suppression and how it seemingly kills my urge to drink. The strains don't really matter all that much imo, if memory serves it's just when they harvest the leaves, I would usually settle on the mixed blend. I'm not sure about how it would affect someone with a previous opiate addiction but it kinda has a built in limiter from letting you abuse it, if I take too much it makes me sick whereas smaller doses give me energy and some mild mood boosting effects.

Aa far as the price I think I spent $200 on a supply that lasted me 6+ months taking a dose twice a day.

I take it on weekends and have quit drinking because of it. I usually stick to 2.5-3 grams once or twice a day. At this rate of usage i go through about 40 dollars worth every three months.

All the different names are just marketing. Red kratom is supposedly processed differently which converts some of the active ingredients into being more pain relieving and sedating, but I can't tell much difference.

Generally, from what I've seen, people who have the most problems with it tend to view it as benign and take it all the time as part of pain management, or they keep upping the dosage (like 20 grams a day or more) chasing the euphoric feeling you can get, and then try to quit and have withdrawals similar to other opiates.

I've also heard of people with previous opiate addictions getting physically addicted to it and having problems quitting. It hits part of the same receptors that opiods hit, so it's something to be careful with, but it's much harder to overdose the way you can with straight up opiates.

AFAIK there hasn't been a death related to kratom where it wasn't part of a cocktail of other serious drugs in someone's system. I'm sure it's possible, but it generally makes you sick if you try to take too much.
