I only finally realized the bug existed when, a few times, I saw users from other instances post their custom emoji (in like 500x200px) and then looked at the bug reports
Before that I had been using quite a few of them in comments, and that made me feel guilty lmao; the dunk threads must look like hell from another instance with all these emojis
I don't know 100% it's just that it seems logical. The image system had to change for federation. It's not just :emote: it's hexbear-trans](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/065ed831-bcb6-485c-b7a1-2f560d3099c3.png "hexbear-trans")
Big fan of the gigantic emojis, I don't even have to check the poster's home instance to know its one of you.
It's funny because we don't even see those giant emojis. If anything they're often too small on our end.

I saw the post where someone mentions that lol, it's pretty obnoxiously huge for us.
I'm sorry ! I've used those quite a bit before realizing and it must have looked like hell both on desktop and mobile
Never bothered me lol, I thought it was part of the shtick.
There is quite a bit of humour in that. Having so different conceptions :)
The long ones must be immense
Hey liberals!
Yeah it's a bug because we had the emoji before we had picture embeds, so our emojis work like emojis for us but like pictures for everyone else.
oh is that what's happening that makes much more sense now ty
Is that the current issue? Is there a module for auto generating different image resolution sizes? Maybe I'll do some research later.

Oh right. I wonder what problem that was a solution for.
it was how they got emotes added to upstream lemmy. we had a bespoke implementation before.
Oh, that's lame. Hexbear's was better
