No, I work with kids and some of the are neurodiverse. We do try our best (some of us anyway) but that doesn't make it easy. It'd he nice to have someone point out a behavior someone finds DiFfIcUlT like eye contact or stimming is just very common expected behavior for a kid with autism and there's nothing wrong with them just because of that.

If you're worried you'll somehow make them more autistic - well, I'm assuming you're joking but I'll say it anyway. No, autism isn't contagious, you can't make then "more autistic." To be honest, they'd probably get a kick out of someone that might understand them and their thought processes better than the average neurotypical person. You have nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to report.

I think you meant neurotypical. izutsumi-idea

But this is totally me and my nephew! My god, I could geek out over magnets and dinosaurs with that kid for days. I've almost got him convinced that the Paw Patrol are cops at best and class traitors at worst. And I guess I'm also teaching him my speech and language coping strategies that I had to learn the hard way, back before autism was even recognized as a real thing.

I'm so pissed off by my autocorrect. Keeps insisting I meant "if" when I type "of" and its way too assertive

Thinking about the autistic teacher I saw on TikTok who brought joy to an autistic student by flapping hands with them a recess. Go ahead.

I'm a teacher. Definitely not a conflict of interest. Feeling empathy for a group is very far from financially profiting off of a position of responsibility.

This is cool and good and the more autistic you make them the cooler and gooder it is

I work with autistic and adhd people as an audhd. It's definitely a strenght, especially when it comes to communication. Much less misunderstandings and far better outcomes as a result.

Is it, like, a policy of the workplace to overreact like this with clapping and yaay? I have an autistic kid and she would start crying if you do that shit around her lol.

If it isn's some policy that you have to do, I'd say be yourself with the kids and just skip the clapping and yaaaay as neurotypical nonsense. Probably will be received better by those that matter the most, the kids.
