i'm convinced the dems would pick Trump at that point lol

Why is there...electoral college. That is the dumbest, easiest to fix, thing ever

Ok but at least the electoral college had a purpose, even if it was a really bad one. There is no reason why you'd want ties to be possible in the fucking presidential election

The electoral college hasn't had a purpose since the telegraph was invented and the lame duck session is worthless*, too. Just fucking escort the losers out immediately after the results.

*Unless you're trying to shove through as much fascism as you can on your way out.

There could always be a tie, if a third candidate wins a state.

More years of Trump means more donations for Democrat politicians and more "you can't vote for a more progressive local politician, we need to band together" job security

However, it's the incoming congress that elects the president in this scenario, not the outgoing one. Dems could flip a couple state delegations potentially

Meme continues, they flip one and it's 25 - 25, but pence slips on a banana on the way to tie break and is incapacitated.

If the house can't pick a president in the case of an EC tie, the VP is acting president until they get their shit together. The VP in an EC tie is decided by the senate.

That could actually be the outcome, because each state delegation gets one vote. I think it is currently the case that Republicans would win that, though that could change after the election (the just-elected reps would be the voters)

each state delegation gets one vote

Lol that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard so of course it's true.

I would laugh myself half to death if a few Republican states ended up having one “moderate” break party lines and causing a tie in the state delegation vote. I know that it’s basically impossible, but it would still be funny.

I have a history teacher who argued that the fact that the US has the world's oldest constitution is a testament to how good it was. On another note, if you told him that the electoral college is undemocratic, he'd tell you that we live in a democratic republic and not a democracy.

Wait this looks pretty likely actually? Basically if all the red states go red, blue states go blue, and Ohio goes red?
