Lets learn from Allende. Do not let them get away with it. Do not let them get out of the country. Round them up do what needs to be done.
This doesn't make sense in the bolivian context the way it did in the Venezuelan context.
Politics in Bolivia re: Morales vs Mesa is mostly andean indigenous left populism vs spanish and amazonian indigenous third way social democracy.
Any attempts at purging of opposition would very likely just result in the country splitting into 2 and that's what the US has been trying to make happen since Morales first came into power in 2006.
I think the Venezuelan example is less about purging your political opposition (Guaido is after all, still able to run around pretending to be President without any punishment) and more about removing disloyal elements within the Military, and entrusting domestic security to mass armed militias.
A large reason why the coup occured in the first place was that the opposition to Morales was repeatedly unable to get him out through electoral means.
I didn't word it properly, which is that the Venezuelan right is evenly distributed through the country as is the left. In Bolivia, it's essentially Santa Cruz vs the andean communities rather than being clean ideological politics.
Guaido not getting what he deserves is necessary. Alive he's a fucking joke. Dead he's a martyr. I really hope Maduro is doing everything he can to protect him.
Anyhow, so happy right now.
Would be hilarious if Maduro was working Guaido and was like "No, you have to stay and try coup after coup.... but each one has to be even more comical and pathetic than the last"
Of course, that regional devide makes sence. It's a delicate situation. MAS is gonna have to be smart specially handeling the military, i would think. The next couple of months could be tense. But figures like Camacho and Áñez surely need to face some sort of consequences.
I honestly hope so. This events clearly changed some things because the criticisms of Evo from the left subsided and the left were able to coalesce. The real problem was clear, lets see if they can finish it off.
i'm pretty sure i remember that before the election linera was already saying they got far too complacent from all the institutional shit and ended up losing sight of things
From a tactics standpoint, I think there need to be real, open, transparent trials.
They need to heavily publicize what happened, selectively invite global observers, and have speedy but fair trials. There can be no question that those who are imprisoned and the select few who are sentenced to death deserve it. The violence must be justified in the eyes of the world, if possible.
I think it would be a mistake to have hasty show trials and mass executions, which seems to be implied by your comment.
After Corbyn and Bernie being annihilated, it's about time us libs had a victory

This guy made a series of posts on neoliberal about how Venezuela was due to fall in 1 or 2 months, about 6 months ago. He was so sure MAS wasn't going to win as well!
It took the mainstream media just a few hours to start covering the previous Bolivian elections as "fraudulent" or "suspicious". Most of them haven't even mentioned Bolivia today.
Yeah they're pretty purposely not mentioning it. I've been watching mainstream news sites and haven't really found a single mention of them yet.
An article about it is featured prominently on The Guardian's website, but I checked and nothing about Bolivia is (as of this comment) on the home page of the MSNBC, CNN, Fox, or HuffPo websites. Both RT and WaPo have articles that are fairly buried about it on their respective sites.
edit: but the Guardian article is fairly high up when an American checks Google News without cookies, so there's that.
This is unironically the happiest I have felt reading the news in a long time. The fight in Bolivia is far, far from over, but just knowing that the people and MAS have spoken and are willing to fight makes me incredibly happy. I hope our comrades down there stay safe.
No you're wrong, there are deep ideological differences between Mesa and Camacho, it's like comparing Obama and Trump.
It's kinda because Mesa is much more left wing than Camacho. No one who considers themselves a right winger is going to vote for Mesa.
It would be like in an election between Bernie, Obama and Trump asking Trump supporters to support Obama to stop Bernie.
Considering Camacho is the whole reason we got into this mess in the first place, I fucking hope Luis Arce puts that fucker in jail the day the results are certified.
The left needs to get better at utilizing/boosting wreckers in elections. It's really effective.
I think they're seeing the numbers and realizing that doing anything will result in them being liquidated in the most literal of senses.

After seeing MAS far behind in some polls, filled with dread, to returning to this post to see this comment and exhale properly again.
You love to see it
Yo why didn't Obama call the fascist candidates and get them all to coalesce around one?
I saw that take on Twitter today. The only reason we MAS won was cause of disunity on the right. Except MAS had over 50% of the vote
I was in a silly paper store yesterday and by the register there was these disposable battery packs for charging iphones. Single use. Absolutely awful.
I mentioned to my SO "look how awful this is, what a waste". The woman working at the store thought i was talking to her and she tried so hard to defend these disposable batteries.
Images of me bringing up Bolivian coups, slave labor lithium mines, the disgusting waste of a single use chemical battery, etc ran through my head. In slow motion I thought to my self "this woman is too happy, too cheery, too positive about the world".
I then decided to let it go and let her Labrador like view on the world be left alone.
Not sure where I'm going with this but damn this is good news.
very good point, and yeah that's madness. makes me feel awful because I'm sure a huge portion aren't disposed of properly
years and years of crappy rechargeable ones souring the idea, even if the newer ones are decent people aren't trusting of them
now that I think about it that was almost certainly intentional, knowing how big corps work and how there's just a few big battery corps
They cost more up front between the batteries and the charger. Ya you save money in the long run but a 50 pack of Costco batteries lasts long enough until a few more paychecks down the line.
Why richer people dont get them, I couldn't tell you. There are still AOL subscribers in the world and people are still willing to pay for cable - not just for sports either. I think some people have just literally never thought of it.
Why richer people dont get them, I couldn’t tell you.
The same reason that even wealthier people just buy nicer tissue paper instead of blowing their noses into reusable handkerchiefs.
Society tells us that certain things are disposable and when we encounter a mild inconvenience (charging a rechargable battery or tossing a handkerchief into the washing machine) we fall into confirmation bias.
silly paper store
I don't know what that is but it can't be good
It was essentially a shop that sells winemom knickknacks, wrapping paper, and custom wedding invite stuff. It had a wall of various shaped and colored envelopes as well. I think most of the store is really for foot traffic and the primary business model is a wedding invite consultation/printing service.
It did have a whole shelf of RBG merch so take that as you will.

It was something like this. Reviews claim it had little lithium AAAs inside.
Edit: others have alkaline. So who knows what it had tbh.
Double Edit: I also assumed Lithium because disposable e-cigs also use small lithium packs. which is basically a disposable battery pack.
Heartwarming.
I'm gonna organize a MAS victory party and invite all my lib friends lol.
