Portland's homicide rate is apparently skyrocketing. Anyone in PDX know what's going on? Is this just a "general instability leads to increased crime" kind of thing? Does this have something to do with protests?

Out of the 5 or so people i know who live in Portland, two of them have experienced violence on their [two separate] blocks in the past month. A stabbing and a drive-by. Shit happens, but it seems that general instability might be causing things to heat up. I'd guess the drive by was gang related, but idk how the "real economy" and the "gang economy" interact with each other. I'm sure it can't be good though.

          imagine using fahrenheit 😂

But yeh, I’m from aus, it gets over 40/100 here in summer. I just figured it was summer in the states right now.

Also I have read that the “temperature to violent crime” correlation increases up to 90f and then tapers off, even potentially decreasing in the hottest temperatures. They theorise it might be because people stay inside to seek cooler climates, therefore less crimes of opportunity.
