It's really bad. I never understood why people do this. Some subreddits have it and it literally destroys the subreddit. If I look into the subreddit the only thing you see is the daily thread of a few people who remember eachother by username.

people recognizing each other is the basis of community... you're hella alienated if you think anything resembling community exists with people you don't know even a little bit.
