this is a rant just a warning

Im a case manager that helps homeless vets get long term housing and there’s something called permanent supportive housing. they want me document to show there was no gaps in their time being homeless (its a 1 year minimum) or to show 4 times (lapses) becoming homeless. its documented by having providers give them services (documented on a homeless data base) or have an observation of their living situation that got noted etc.

fucking bullshit that they can’t accidentally give someone who was only homeless 11 months or who was homeless 11 months housed 1 month but became homeless again. this is infuriating lmao ughhhhh why cant we just give people homes fuck

so like there is this thing called the housing market and it needs housing to seem like a finite resource so it can continue to profit even though there is like enough housing for everyone but they keep those empty for speculation, also, i personally think that the leaving the homeless on the streets is kinda of a capitalist trap because they want you to see them suffer, so you keep working, because you know what happens if you fail, they are the constant reminder on the streets that if you fail, there still a bigger suffering awaiting you, to be destitute and hungry on the streets like them. *also not trying to explain this to you, just joining the rant with my personal gripes with the housing market

matt said on his stream that thats the capitalist nightmare they want to hang over your head because its that miserable and trauma inducing so i agree that its a trap on purpose

matt is way more well read than me and you could not have a better nightmare to loom over every worker than to know that a single bad month could make you live in the streets no bed, no food, nothing to help you get out of this situation in cities that are designed around making you have the least comfort possible if you are in this situation

the shit i hear second hand from my clients is extremely gut wrenchingly evil like seriously. anyone who says they need to just work harder or whatever is so beyond out of touch i want then to live 12 hours in their shoes and see how they feel

i mean the only people with access to the information are nonprofits and it explicitly can’t be used against them like government police etc they have VERY strict consent rules in regards to the system. its not as precise as you may think in terms of the “surveillance” just what providers they enter and essential documents that are often needed between organizations. i agree though its fucked but i may have mischaracterized it for brevity

nono all of my clients have to be under the designation “literally homeless”. its a matter of how homeless are you really tho fucking vile. im glad i have different tools for the “homeless but not hopeless” bc the process in my OP is basically only for people who will never be able to be permanently housed for one reason or another. the rest can get some help as a treat but need to figure alot out on their own. I wish i could walk all of them through but i don’t have time or resources for them sadly. gotta ration my time so no one falls through the cracks.

Yet again, one's material wealth is inversely proportional to the expectation that one will exercise "personal responsibility." I fucking hate it here

luckily my organization has a “work towards the yes” protocol where if its able to be stretched as valid then it is alot of the time

yeah I do my best but there’s many layers of quality control above me. if we fund someone who isn’t supposed to be funded my non profit has to give that money back to the VA. luckily our directive is to really stretch shit to work within guidelines most times. so i appreciate that at least

Yesterday, I announced that, as president, I'll grant permanent supportive housing to homeless veterans who start a business that operates for three years in disadvantaged communities... provided that they don't have any gaps in their official homeless documentation.

I can massage some which my organization encourages within. but there’s a limit to what can get past QA checks to make sure things are in order. there are 2-3 QA checks along the way on top of audits sooo i do my best lmao I at the very least take every bit of information in their favor to the best of my ability lmao

Imagine how many more people could be housed with the money it takes to make sure 3x over that nobody is getting anything they "don't deserve."

they follow up and check everything sadly. but i can make things count as ok that are kind of dubious and I only stop clients funding for motels for example when I absolutely have too.

an example would be if they have a big expense like a power chair or something but dont have problems paying rent i can say hey dont pay rent this month get a 3 day pay or quit notice (I can help urgently tipping into homelessness like evictions as well) and pay for that chair and I can pick up rental arrears you owe and help with rent for a bit and stuff. so like i can help in indirect ways that are really encouraged as long as I can find a way to finagle and make it work on paper
