We don’t think you fight fire with fire best ; we think you fight fire with water best. We’re going to fight racism not with racism, but we’re going to fight with solidarity. We say we’re not going to fight capitalism with black capitalism, but we’re going to fight it with socialism. We’re stood up and said we’re not going to fight reactionary pigs and reactionary state’s attorneys like this and reactionary state’s attorneys like Hanrahan with any other reactions on our part. We’re going to fight their reactions with all of us people getting together and having an international proletarian revolution.

not surprising that killer mike gets all this press and el-p gets nothing because one of them is actually anti-capitalist and one of them is a purely aesthetic landlord defending ass

He's not even as anti-cop as he is in his music. Started crying when protesters were tearing shit up in Atlanta. And that shit was mild compared to some of the things he says in his songs.

look I'm no Landlord Mike stan but the backstory behind how he wound up at that press conference is pretty wild. TI pretty much dragged him there

pretty sure those tears weren't about shit getting smashed, but given how he makes his money who knows

been tellin yall killer mike is corny AF with his stupid ass "im the black friend at the brooklyn heights white ass ironic ugly christmas sweater party" music

cant even talk about black shit without catering it to white suburban waiting in line for the supreme brick teens and yall ate it up for years!!! CORNY not even a good rapper like damn nerd ass music school house rock for white rich kids

the type of music white people say they prefer over "normal rap music about money and bitches"

    brockhampton ass mfers

pretty sure in the time i made this comment a RTJ fan has already gotten jumped in the neighborhood they tryna gentrify with their parents money and got his "anti social social club" hoodie stolen

sucks their fans suck but it's not like it's much better with 'non-woke' rap. the entire game is and has been about selling records to white teens (i.e. the folks w/ the most disposable income and most time to stan you)

idk I'd just rather listen to rtj & brockhampton than another homophobic/misogynistic Trouble song

at least now those elitist kids are listening to those two and not rhymesayers or whatever

if I hear one more motherfucker talk about his favorite Gibbs album being Pinata on the other hand...

it is true that regardless of what the type of rap is being sold, its targeted towards white kids with money, but i will say that in my experience ive found non woke rap that eventually becomes pop-y to at least be a little more authentic, raw, more interesting and relevant to my personal black experience, but still, very problematic.

id say that money and bitches music is on average more problematic than woke rap, but woke rap also has a history of being very misogynistic, homophobic, etc so i dont think i can use "more" as a qualifier.

i think im reacting less to the RTJ fans being stupid ass white kids and more to the fans being stupid ass white kids with a chip on their shoulder, who think theyre edgy or just woker than thou for listening to music that is purposefully made to be extremely accessible to the white rich teen.

also just as a black person i dont find RTJ rapping about reagan in 2012 that special or edgy or especially cool. like my black parents were reagan babies, my whole neighborhood has reagan babies, this shit isnt some new stuff i read yesterday (not saying killer mike read it yesterday too but sometimes his raps are very "HAVE YOU HEARD THIS" and as a black person it just feels like he's not talking to me because of course ive heard it)

that jives for sure. especially the edit. I do dig that song but...yeah it's not like it was groudbreaking content

also I hadn't stayed up to date w/ the brockhampton sex pest shit they can pound sand, I rescind my endorsement

I'm just glad Kemba hasn't blown up, I don't want woker-than-thou fans to ruin that for me either

i know, they have some bops, even saw them in concert (lol it was the only concert i went to where the bar line was like 2 ppl bc the show was full of kids) im just saying that i think i can jump them and given that theyre like 15 of them i dont think that should be the case

Black capitalism would serve black people about as well as white capitalism (well, worse actually because the spoils of the world have largely been claimed already by white capitalism). A few would get very rich and the rest would remain very poor.

Hey, hate his politics here but do you blame the guy for coming to those conclusions?

We are a bunch of weaklings who rely on white supremacists to protect us from nazis, the same white supremacists who murdered anything progressive in the last 70 years.

We need to project power and confidence of some kind to open the minds of men like Mike.

ngl tho, that edit of Mikes's speech that went viral during peak Bernie had me. Really had me.

i dont blame him or any black person coming to this conclusion at all!! I think its shitty when white leftists get superior about marginalized people who never got a taste of capitalism and wealth being apprehensive about dismantling the one thing that we've (falsely) been told all these years can give us more equality. i do think mike should know better though given who he capes for (bernie) but yeah, black people coming to the conclusion that black capitalism is the way to go is understandable and is meant to be called in by fellow black people and not to be sneered at

In terms of technical ability, aesthetic, and presentation it's hard not to argue that Killer Mike as part of RTJ has been one of the freshest breaths of air in quite some time. I, personally, and definitely as someone who appreciates production over everything prefer El-P in the duo, but I feel the yin-yang creates a situation where the sum is greater than its parts.

However, it is disappointing to hear the music then remember/take on knowledge of the man himself.

It's a similar cognitive dissonance I feel when the hot clipping guy does sesame street

And they shield themselves from criticism with the race card every time. at least killer Mike’s capitalism is far more benign than a lot of the sick shit in black business and entrepreneurship

I believe it’s just using capitalism as a means to get black people out of poverty.

It’s advocating for black landlords, business owners, finance ghouls, etc. as a solution to black poverty

You're right though, he's a radlib larper. Perfectly happy to tell people to hate the system so they buy his albums but god forbid they riot for black lives because that might damage his rental properties.
