"How uncouth!" quoth the Democrats, after unilaterally doubling the defense budget, propping up Israel's military, and pushing for a new Cold War with China.

Counterpoint the following week: With Biden and VP Hermoine Harris at the helm, the Star Wars rebel theme seems appropriate at all military events

Then they tie it into Space Force somehow.

It's the worst, most mindlessly contrarian take people consistently upbear here.

Civilian drone strike deaths skyrocketed 330% under Trump and he took us from a diplomatic agreement with Iran to organizing a strike on the country that he only chickened out of at the 11th hour. That would have been the most blatantly criminal foreign invasion we undertook since Iraq, which was also started under a Republican, which killed over 2.4 million people. There's no comparison.

One of the quickest ways to get people on the edge of radicalizing to turn back is to demonstrate that you, a leftist, don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Claiming Democrats are actually the more belligerent party is a quintessential "oh this guy doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about" take.

I've explained upthread, the escalation is bilateral. I'll take my licks though, my bit was pretty reactionary.

You're right that both parties are imperialist parties, but they pursue imperialism in different ways.

Libs want to do imperialism with sanctions, IMF loans, air strikes, and at most a small number of special forces guys on the ground. They do not want to do the Big War – an invasion with 10,000+ troops and possibly a subsequent occupation – and they haven’t done that since LBJ escalated Vietnam. Conservatives are happy to do the Big War. Since Vietnam they’ve invaded Grenada, Panama, Iraq (twice), and Afghanistan. The GOP is filled to the brim with evangelicals who want to wage holy war on Islam and communism, and that turns into stuff like “we’ll find out if sand can glow” (Ted Cruz) and “100 years in Iraq” (John McCain) at highest levels of the party.

Although both approaches are bad, the distinction matters because the Big War kills far more people, does more damage to the victim country, and is a lot harder to rebound from.

“Trump is the lesser of two evils on foreign policy” is literally a fascist talking point and it constantly gets up votes here.

Too many recovering libs read "Democrats suck, too" as "Democrats are actually worse than Republicans." No more of a zealot than the recently converted, and all.

fascist talking point and it constantly gets up votes here

Can you think of a reason why socialists (middle class whites hmmm) think the fun spectacle is more relevant to their lives than material violence?

Ultimately, they work for the same machine, but if Trump had one quality about him is he wasn't trying to deploy more troops.

Oh thank god. Him assassinating a military general out of nowhere is fine. At least he didn’t deploy troops. What about increasing drone strikes even more than Obama? That’s okay too.

I saw him pull him try to pull troops out of Afghanistan then got pressured into reversing it. Not perfect, but hey, I doubt Obama/Biden would have given that consideration.

How about I amend my original title to "equally aggressive", cool?
