What's crazy is it's from a side of the family that didn't even know we existed until my parents did 23 and me. It was interesting to meet my long lost grandfather and extended family, but unfortunately I legit think my great grandfather is a full on war criminal. He ran the military police in Seoul during the Korean war so god knows what he did.
It was always an extreme point of pride for my grandmother our family was related (thru marriage lmao) to Andrew Jackson. I think the only real thing you CAN do about a heritage like yours or mine is just not make it into part of your identity. It's a Fun Fact, not a part of who you are.
You just have to hope that your problematic ancestor doesn't end up on some currency.
