At some point there was an individual who was given/gave themselves a surname based on something about their life. I wonder what the origins of Craven was. That seems like the kind of name you've got to really fuck up to earn. Crusader Kings II has the word so my medieval studies confirm they knew what it meant. I can't imagine people willingly adopting it or a dynasty keeping it for generations.
