yeah, I often try to talk to people about why things are they way they are, but for all the talk about material conditions, class interest, capitalism, sometimes the unfairness and despair just hits me like a brick wall and I feel like curling up into a ball and just screaming into the void. Like I know why things are the way they are today, but like whywhywhywhywhywhy

Imagine feeling like that as someone who’s born in China, left for the US cuz of your own late-teenage lib rebellion :agony-wholesome: :xi:

I do have this thing where I just smolder in anger; which has taken a nugget of loathsome ore in my soul and burned off all the slag until it became a molten, pure hatred within the crucible of my inner-being. But other than that, no.

Channel that shit! Make something productive from the anger. God I wish I could take my own advice but that shit can fuel you.

Oh I'm very much on the side of hatred being a fine motivator. I think it's pretty underrated as a reason to live. A lot of people adopt a Saturday morning cartoon idea of hatred and speak in platitudes about how you can't live with hate. But hatred is the most measured response to the shit that goes on in this world and the people who make it happen. You should be filled with hate for them. If you don't then I don't think you have really understood the stakes of all this.

Agree 100%. When your hate is pure it can fuel you. Honestly mine I feel like makes me a better socialist. There are people and actions in this world where the proper reaction is hatred. Like we should be hating racists, reactionaries, etc. etc. these are bad people who will harm you. But when I think about it, if there was a war between the right and left, I wouldn't torture right-wing pows. I'd feed them, clothe them, give them medical attention and send them back. That totally demoralizes the enemy.

Fun fact, that's exactly what Mao did during the revolution, and it worked exactly like that.

Yes constantly. I use to read way too much climate science and news and it really screwed with my brain for months and months. I care deeply about climate but I just can't look at it anymore, it's just too depressing. Even still, it pops into my head, especially right before I go to sleep too. It's rough but I've come to terms with it as best as I can. What I can't get over though is imaging how bad the climate is going to be in like 20 years but that just makes me cherish what we got for now I suppose.

Also related but, I use to try to talk about eco-socialism a lot on r/collapse because of how many doomers there were and how anti-capitalist a lot of the sentiments were. I put in a couple years of work posting there almost everyday or so and I think it helped some people, but I had to block the sub because it was a net loss for my own happiness. I'd just randomly start crying occasionally thinking about all that shit combined and how shitty my job is. I still have those sentiments but blocking places like that eventually helped a lot in the long run. It's brutal though

What fucked us was stalin dying and not having a good successor. The Sino Soviet split was the right call for China, in hindsight.

My greatest fear is dying under capitalism because it seems so fucking realistic

I’m never gonna be able to live in a society where I can be happy
